I was chatting up on Facebook the other day when my pal Vic over at ScreenRant passed along this really cool superhero movie evolution chart they [...]
Fourth Underworld Movie
Sunday, November 22, 2009 1:52 PM | From Movie-Moron
Apparently the three Underworld movies just weren’t enough for the series… With the first movie using the power of Kate Beckinsale’s arse clad in bondage leather to rake in an impressive $95 million worldwide and its sequel Underworld: Evolution using even more slow-motion…
Writer Hired For Underworld 4
Friday, November 20, 2009 7:08 PM | From Cinema Blend
The Shield was one of those acclaimed and beloved TV series that had its own audience for sure, but thanks to a spot on cable, didn't exactly blow up into the mainstream the way it might have. But since the show has wrapped, at least, the people behind it have been moving on to even bigger things. John Hlavin, a writer for the series, has signed on to write the screenplay for the fourth Underworld film.
According to THR, Hlavin ...
Check This Out: The Evolution of the Superhero Movie Graph
There's really no denying that superhero movies are in their prime right now. Years ago, no one thought comic book adaptations would become the mainstream mega-hits that they are today. And to show us the history and evolution of that genre, we've got another great graph to feature today called The Evolution of the Superhero Movie. This comes from the guys who made the Sequels That Bombed, $400 Million Club, and Harry Potter Directors graphics previously. This is one of my all-time favorites though, just because it's dealing with an area of cinema that I'm very familiar with. And so with that, check this out fullsize below.
This graphic originally comes from KoldCast TV, although I was given permission by the creators to run it here. There are a lot of fascinating stats found on this chart. For example, 68% of all superhero movies are from Marvel, which is an impressive ...
We have been hearing a little bit about another Underworld film for quite some time and today finally we have some news about what is officially happening. According to THR's Heat Vision blog The Shield writer John Hlavin will work on the script for Screen Gems/Lakeshore Entertainment.
So far we don't know what else to go on. The only official news on the film is that it will probably be in 3D with a target release date of January 21st, 2011. We also know that Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore.
Currently there is no word on whether or not Kate Beckinsale will return but she has gone on the record that if there was a good script she would jump on board. No word on whether or not Rhona Mitra would jump on or not either.
4th Underworld coming
Friday, November 20, 2009 3:16 PM | From Joblo.Com
Back before any of this TWILIGHT business, there was another movie franchise about warring factions of vampires and werewolves. It was called UNDERWORLD and while it lacked some of the obvious melodrama present in the TWILIGHT franchise, I can't really say that they were all that much better. Yet they were profitable in their own little way and Sony-based Screen Gems is moving forward on a fourth UNDERWORLD film....

Underworld 4 might actually be good!
Friday, November 20, 2009 2:32 PM | From Fused Film
The Underworld series has been on a steady decline since the first film, but I now find myself in the strange predicament of being very interested in the fourth film. THR tells us John Hlavin, who previously wrote for “The Shield” has just been hired to write the fourth installment in Screen Gems/Lakeshore’s “Underworld” franchise.
Len [...]
Underworld 4 Gets a Shield of Sorts
Friday, November 20, 2009 1:40 PM | From Latino Review
The fourth installment in the Underworld series -- whose quality you readers seem to be divided over -- now has a writer and it's none other than John Hlavin from The Shield.
With no one yet signed to direct, and neither Kate Beckinsale or Rhona Mitra (from the third film) attached to star, everything about this project seems to be up in the air. The only things we can confirm so far, is that Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films, will produce, and that the movie is not a prequel.
Said, Hlavin,"It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."
Judging by this statement, it seems like the fourth movie will launch a whole new group of characters and storyline. Is that something you Underworld fans -- and non-fans -- would be interested in seeing?

What would it take to get you really excited for the fourth Underworld film? I'm not sure anything would do the trick for me (I wasn't excited for the second and third by any means) but putting a really good writer on the job would help. Seeing that a writer from The Shield would be writing the picture gave me a little boost of interest. Only a little boost, though, because it isn't series creator Shawn Ryan, but John Hlavin, who wrote a couple episodes of the final season.
THR has the goods on Hlavin, who has done some other TV work here and there, most recently writing a couple episodes of the ad agency show Trust Me.
Beyond this hire, we don't know much about the film, and prior statements about it should probably be taken with a grain of salt. While 3D is a fairly reasonable expectation, until there's a ...
Underworld 4 Hires The Shield Writer

Screen Gems has hired "The Shield" writer John Hlavin to pen the script for the fourth installment in the "Underworld" franchise. At this point, neither Kate Beckinsale (Underworld, Underworld: Evolution) or Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) have signed on to return.
