The countdown to James Cameron's Avatar continues and the only things we have to pass the time until the world's [Select one] (best/worst) movie hits the theaters are new movie posters.
The latest poster comes to us from France where "By the director of Titanic" is written as "Par le realissateur de Titanic." That's not that surprising considering the habit the French have of, well, speaking French.
What is a little surprising though, is the decision not to mention the name of lead actress Zoe Saldana on this poster. Considering that the Na'vi pictured is none other than her character, Neytiri, it's kind of weird that they decided to mention Michelle Rodriguez in her place. As much as I love Rodriguez -- and I do! -- what's the sense of replacing the name of Saldana (who just had a hit as Uhura in Star Trek) with Rodriguez?
Or, if anything, they could have just placed all three actresses' names together and left Sam Worthington's name for -- what I'm sure will be released next week -- the poster with just his character's face.

Ever wonder where Titanic got the drive to be so unbelievably, terrifyingly successful? Turns out the highest-grossing film of all time was only looking for acceptance from its distant, enigmatic director, James Cameron – acceptance that never came. James Cameron shared his thoughts on the doomed ship flick (and apparently everything else) in an interview [...]
Sometimes, $600 million just isn’t enough money. According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Cameron’s ‘Titanic’ is less than a year away from seeing 3D re-release. This bit of news comes from Cameron’s own Lightstorm Entertainment, and, evidently, tests have already been run on the potential of transferring ‘Terminator’ and ‘Terminator 2′ to 3D, as well.
Says Jon Landau of Lightstorm:
We are certainly interested in exploring the opportunity to rerelease some of Lightstorm’s past films in 3D. I don’t think it’s too far into the future. We’re pretty far down the road.
With films like ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Toy Story 2′ already seeing…

Titanic to Get 3-D Theatrical Re-release?
Wednesday, September 23, 2009 8:21 AM | From Film Junk
With Disney re-releasing new 3-D versions of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in theatres next weekend, and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D about to do its annual October theatrical run, a lot of studios are giving thought to 3-D updates of other classic films as well. No doubt the success or failure of the Toy Story double bill will determine whether or not we see more of these types of re-releases.
According to The Hollywood Reporter [1], one film that is looking very likely to get a three-dimensional makeover in the near future is the highest grossing movie of all time, James Cameron's Titanic. Folks at Cameron's production company Lightstorm Entertainment have acknowledged 3-D tests for both Titanic and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Other movies that would be no brainers for a 3-D re-release include The Matrix and Star Wars. While Titanic must be an obvious choice just based on its past success, I have to admit, I don't see 3-D really adding a lot to the experience. Do you?
I like the idea of re-releasing classics in theatres, but I'm not quite sold on the 3-D remastering process. How many worthwhile effects can you really add after the fact? I'm not totally against 3-D but I certainly prefer watching movies that were originally intended for three-dimensional viewing. Would you pay to watch Titanic again in 3-D? What about some of these other classics?

Titanic in Digital 3-D Will Put the Iceberg Right in Your Face
By now you know that digital 3-D is the cool new kid on the block, and he's stealing all of 2-D's friends. But with plenty of future blockbusters getting the three dimensional treatment, what else could possibly happen with the new technology? That's right! They're going to go back and turn all your old favorite films into 3-D adventures and we can all have a piece of it for the price of an admission ticket. Pixar's Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are the first (albeit deserving) of this 3-D re-release trend. But now, as THR reports, the the highest grossing film of all time, James Cameron's Best Picture winning epic Titanic, might not be far behind.
Over at Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, insiders are saying it will be less than a year before we see Titanic sink again in front of our eyes in digital 3-D. Apparently the guys at Lightstorm have ...
Shelf Life: Titanic
Wednesday, September 2, 2009 8:08 PM | From Cinematical
After Cinematical's new "Movies I Will Never See" series elicited a strong variety of reactions - both positive and negative - from readers, it occurred to us that there's a huge, untapped reservoir of existing films that we have actually seen, and it would probably be at least as interesting, if not more so, to go back and see how well they held up in the years since their release. These may be acclaimed classics that audiences simply haven't revisited on a regular basis, or condemned failures that might deserve a second look; but setting a statute of limitations of five years or more old (meaning before '04), we're going back to see how good are the bad movies, and how bad are the good ones - in other words testing their shelf life.
With James Cameron's Avatar looming large on the horizon, and the "event movie" filmmaker lauding his latest as no less than a worthy successor to the Highest-Grossing Movie of All Time, it seemed appropriate to see if Titanic was not only worth the hype that surrounded its original release, but to indicate whether it promised enough true and lasting greatness to entice fanboys and casual filmgoers alike to trust in the director as he debuts his next effort.

With his 3D CGI, Motion-Capture extravaganza Avatar on the way at the end of the year, just what else has James Cameron got on the horizon? Well, how about taking some of his past movies and transforming them into 3D as well? Word is that Cameron is thinking about doing his mega-success Titanic in 3D, [...]
