The Strangers 2 Set to Shoot in the Fall

Friday, July 24, 2009 3:56 PM | From We Are Movie Geeks

the strangers

Honestly, I gotta say this bit of news came a lot later than expected.  ‘The Strangers’ came out May of 2008, it cost $9 million, and it made $52 million in domestic.  ‘The Strangers 2′ should have been fast-tracked with Rogue Pictures throwing all kinds of cash in Bryan Bertino’s direction to get the writer/director back on board.

Instead, the news comes out today, nearly 14 months later, that ‘The Strangers 2′ is set to begin shooting this coming Fall.  What’s more, it doesn’t appear Bertino will be returning.  Instead, French director Laurent Briet will be filling the director’s chair.  This…

Strangers Sequel to Film Later This Year

Thursday, July 23, 2009 10:35 PM | From The Moving Picture
Rouge Pictures has been prepping a sequel to the horror flick The Strangers for the past few months and now the trades have confirmed that production is expected to begin in the fall for a 2010 release. Confirming earlier online reports, Producers have signed on French filmmaker Laurent Briet to direct The Strangers 2. Briet's a commercial and music video director who also worked on visual effects for The Ring. Briet also helmed the short film Little Minx Exquisite Corpse: Rope a Dope. Bryan Bertino, who wrote and directed the first film, wrote the sequel. The story is being kept under wraps and it is still unclear who, if anyone, from the first film will return. Live Tyler and Scott Speedman starred in the original, which centered on a couple terrorized by masked assailants at their remote summer house. The Strangers became Rogues first breakout hit, and the compamy has previously stated it hopes it will become a franchise that could have the legs of Saw or Scream. Budgeted at $9 million, the film grossed $54 million domestically in a highly competitive summer release slot. You can check out some of Briets commercial work over at his official site. Strangers 2 a go

Wednesday, July 22, 2009 2:28 AM | From Joblo.Com
One of the best and most underrated horror films I saw last year was THE STRANGERS, the chilling tale of a couple being stalked in their remote home by a trio of masked psychopaths. The quiet, understated film struck all the right notes, and left all the excruciating details to the imagination (I can't believe we didn't see their faces!). Apparently THE STRANGERS: PART 2 is set to begin filming in September with... Read More... Read Article

Watchmen/Hellboy Producer Llyod Levin Tackles Terry Moores Echo

Tuesday, July 21, 2009 12:49 PM | From /Film
Lloyd Levin has been the prime mover on more than a few big comic book adaptations; the two Hellboy films and Watchmen are big marks on his resume. Now, according to Variety, he's taken the screen rights to Echo, a comic book series by Strangers in Paradise creator Terry Moore. The series, which began in March of 2008 and has run twelve issues so far, follows Julie Martin, a photographer who witnesses a military exercise gone wrong and subsequently is involved with atomic powers and a secret military power suit. I tuned out of Strangers in Paradise a long time ago, but Moore's work definitely has qualities that differentiate it from everything else on the market. Besides his adherence to black and white work (when doing his own stories) Moore is known for creating strong, unique female characters. That makes Echo an interesting option for a film adaptation, as Julie ... Read Article

Universal might sell Rogue arm. "The Strangers" developer was considering a sequel.

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 6:59 PM | From MovieJungle

A sign of the times. The economy's suffering and the results are once again more apparent than ever. Universal Pictures is currently in talks to pitch off its Rogue Pictures for a pretty decent price. Apparently, they're considering a $150 million sale to Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity Media.

This sale would include every of the company's thirty pictures as well as four films slated for a 2009 release and anything in development as well.

Their shocking thriller "The Strangers" starring Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler, brought in solid numbers with a $53 million box office take. Fittingly so, the DVD sees release today on DVD and Blu-ray unrated versions. (Shop now on MovieJungle.com!)

A sequel was being talked about, whether this will materialize now, is another thing.
