Brad Pitt Picks Up Dark Void

Capcom is releasing a new game titled Dark Void. Now the game isn't really in the realm of horror but if the film is made the way the log line sounds I think we will all be able to enjoy a little Alien madness.

Brad Pitt's shingle Plan B and Reliance Big Entertainment have inked a deal with Capcom to turn the game into a feature film. Dark Void follows a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission and finds himself in an alternate world resembling a primitive Earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization.

Of course at this point Variety doesn't have any details on who will may direct or develop the script. So once things get going we will bring you the updates as they come in.

Hey, what to do when you can't think of something on your own? Take the idea from a video game! That's right, another video game big screen adaptation might be coming to the big screen. And even though the game itself isn't out yet, that won't stop Hollywood from grabbing it before somebody else does! Imagine the bidding war for Wii Boggle!The trades reports on Brad Pitt's production company, snagging the rights to "Dark Void", a video game coming out next year for PC, PS3 and XBOX 360: Dark Void will yield development matter. Indian giant Reliance BIG Entertainment and Brad Pitts Plan B shingle are developing a film version of the upcoming video game, and Pitt could well star as the lead combatant. The two firms have acquired rights to the Capcom third-person shooter and will develop as a feature. The companies say that the project would be a potential starring vehicle for Pitt. No writers have been hired as yet. Void centers on a a cargo pilot named Will (Pitts presumed character) who, after crashing in the Bermuda Triangle, ends up in a parallel universe where a band of humans must fight an alien threat they had long been thought extinct. Will and the other humans are outmanned but have a number of weapons and powers to help them beat back the alien incursion. The game will be released for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in January. CAA repped Plan B and Reliance in the deal; UTA-repped Capcom. If it becomes a full-fledged film, the project could potentially be made via Reliances financing pact with DreamWorks and/or distributed through DreamWorks output deal with Disney, though no formal decisions have been made on either as yet. The project is the first to come out of a development partnership between Plan B and Reliance that was announced at the Festival de Cannes in 2008. The Indian giant has deals with a number of other Hollywood production banners, including Julia Roberts Red Om and George Clooneys Smokehouse. Video games have had a mixed record on the big screen, with title likes Max Payne mutating into critical and commercial flops. But principals here pointed to advantages a Dark Void movie would have that its predecessors have not. As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale, Capcom senior vp licensing Germaine Gioia said.Source: the trades

Capcoms Upcoming Dark Void to be Adapted to Film, Possibly as a Brad Pitt Vehicle

I'm not at all surprised to read that Dark Void, the upcoming video game from Capcom, will be adapted into a feature film. The first time I played the game, at Capcom's editor's day in early 2008, the game's filmic influences were obvious. There's a large dollop of The Rocketeer in there, as well as some Buck Rogers and a general sensibility inherited from '40s adventure films and serials. A movie almost had to happen. Now the first step has been taken. THR reports that Reliance BIG Entertainment and Brad Pitt's company Plan B are developing the film. There aren't yet writers on board (get your pitches ready!) and at the moment it is just a potential Pitt vehicle. I'd be a bit surprised if he went for it -- would be a highly physical role that I'd have expected to see him do ten years ago, but not so much ...

New Host 2 Concept Art and Video Game

Bong Joon-Ho's The Host was a huge success here in the States and was bound to get a sequel. Finally they are starting to get the ball rolling again and this time they plan on rolling out a video game to accompany the movie upon release.

The Host 2 video game is being handed over to Queens Soft and will be multi platform including mobile phones and PC. The game will be a first person shooter with mutant humanoids graced with superhuman skills. Right now the film is being set up for a release in 2011 while the script is being finished up now. Soon a director and cast will be announced as well. So keep it here for more on this developing story.

MPAA Urges FCC Protect Creative Content Online In National Broadband Plan
