The fangirls have outdone the fanboys: The Twilight sequel New Moon had a huge opening weekend at the box office, scoring the biggest first day ever and knocking The Dark Knight off its bat-perch along the way.
New Moon Fails to Beat Dark Knight for Best Opening Weekend
"Twilight" sequel "New Moon" grossed around $141 million this weekend, failing to break the record for best opening weekend of all time. The film bumped "Pirated of the Caribbean" ($136 million) to take third place after "The Dark Knight" ($158 million) and "Spider-Man 3" ($151 million). "New Moon" still holds the records for best midnight gross and best first day gross.
New Avatar Updates: Running Time, Cameron is Everywhere
As of today, there are only 26 days or 623 hours left until James Cameron's Avatar finally hits theaters. That means Fox is really kicking their marketing into high gear and Cameron himself is at the forefront of it. There's a whole boatload of new Avatar updates today, but I've picked out the most important ones, so as to not overload you with footage, because we've seen plenty already. First up, THR recently confirmed that the running time is set at 150 minutes. Say what you will about watching nearly three hours of blue aliens on Pandora, but The Dark Knight had a running time of 152 minutes, and we all know how well that movie did.
Now that we know that the running time is pretty much as long as The Dark Knight, it's not an excuse to blame the running time for its failure (if it does indeed flop). ...

Weekend Box Office - NEW MOON Has The Third Highest Weekend of All Time with $140.7 Million
Sunday, November 22, 2009 11:16 AM | From Collider
It was a record-breaking weekend at the box office from almost every perspective. In fact, so many records were broken that it is kind of hard to keep them straight. By Friday morning The Twilight Saga: New Moon had already passed The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to become the top [...]
That’s right boys and girls, we now live in a world where the above film does more business than this:
NEW MOON has officially taken down THE DARK KNIGHT as the biggest opening day in the history of cinema. $72.2 million is the new mark to beat, which is up from the previous $67.2 million set just last year. I guess that gives the third installment of the Christopher Nolan directed franchise something to aim for.
New Moon Shatters Midnight Screening Box Office Record

Everyone knew going into this weekend that The Twilight Saga: New Moon would be huge. But did anyone expect it to be Dark Knight huge? Nikki Finke is reporting that New Moon may have made as much as $24 million from midnight screenings last night, beating both The Dark Knight's $18.4 million and Harry Potter's $22.2 million. As in, holy god, that's a whole lot of money.
Summit Entertainment hasn't released their official numbers yet, but it's hard to imagine this number being ...
The Twilight Saga: New Moon Destroys Harry Potter and Dark Knight at Midnight Box Office
Summit Entertainment has announced that The Twilight Saga: New Moon has broken box office records, earning over $26.27 million in midnight screenings from 3,514 theaters. This destroys the $22.2 million midnight record held by Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince, and the previous second place, Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight, which earned $18.4 million in midnight earnings. Also, Summit's re-release of the original Twilight on Thursday night on 2,057 screens resulted in $1.3 million in ticket sales.
But the real question is, what will New Moon's numbers look like at the end of the weekend?
Here is a round up of predictions from the Box Office prognosticators around the web:
Box Office Psychics: $114M
Lees Movie Info: $111M
Box Office.com: $110M
Box Office Mojo (Derby): $98.4M
NEW MOON does $26.3 million last night, defeats HARRY POTTER
As if there was any doubt that this would happen, its now official; THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON is now the highest grossing midnight showing of all time. The previous record was held by this guy:
HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE took the record from THE DARK KNIGHT with $22.2 million over the summer. After taking the pot with its $26.3 million NEW MOON is now settings its sights on the next record of $67.2 million in one day, which is currently held by THE DARK KNIGHT. I dont know who we are all kidding, this record is as…

Unfortunately, the film didn't hit home with critics as the 49% RottenTomatoes rating the first film [...]
