J. Michael Straczynski Penning Video Game Adaptation Shattered Union, Still on Paul Greengrass Project

Tuesday, October 27, 2009 12:00 PM | From /Film
UPDATE: Since publishing this, /Film reader Eneko Ruiz pointed me to Straczynski's own site, where an email he reprints (from Oct 24) suggests that he's not actively working on Silver Surfer. JMS writes: "My guess is that since my draft was closely tied into FF2, which is ancient now, they've struck off in a different direction." Original article follows, but I deleted 'Still on Silver Surfer' from the original title of this piece. The game Shattered Union only came out in 2005, but I doubt too many people remember it. The PC and Xbox turn-based strategy title speculated on a political future in which the US sees states seceding from the Union after the second-term retention of the most unpopular president in the nation's history. Now Jerry Bruckheimer is setting a film version up at Disney, and has tapped J. Michael Straczynski to write. If the film can go into production relatively ... Read Article

Marvel Working on Ghost Rider 2, Daredevil, & Silver Surfer Movies

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 4:14 PM | From FirstShowing.net
An interesting update has hit Variety today regarding Marvel and specifically some of the upcoming comic book projects Fox has in the works - such as Ghost Rider 2. The article primarily mentions that Columbia Pictures has begun moving forward with the Ghost Rider sequel and brought on David Goyer to create the story and supervise writers (even though Goyer said "he hadn't signed on yet"). Goyer last directed The Unborn but is probably better known for writing the Blade trilogy as well as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The plans are to apparently base the sequel on a Ghost Rider script that Goyer wrote years ago. The article also includes a mention about other projects Fox has in the works, including: Fantastic Four with writer Michael Green and producer Akiva Goldsman, a Wolverine sequel and several X-Men spinoffs, and a new version of Daredevil and a Silver Surfer film ... Fox Confirms Fantastic Four Reboot

Monday, August 31, 2009 11:07 PM | From The Moving Picture
Hot on the heels of the big Disney/Marvel news comes word 20th Century Fox is developing a reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise. Rumors of a potential reboot first hit back in March. Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) has been hired to oversee the reboot as producer. Michael Green, the co-exec producer of TV's Heroes who co-wrote Green Lantern, will write the script for the new Fantastic Four. The 2005 Fantastic Four and 2007 sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer were directed by Tim Story and starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis. Since the deals for the reboot are just getting made, it is unclear if any of them will return. The first film, on a reported production budget of $100 million, grossed $154 million domestically and $175 million internationally. The sequel cost $130 million to produced and grossed $131 million domestically and $157 million internationally. Though Marvel Entertainment owns and finances properties like Iron Man and Thor, Fox controls Fantastic Four in perpetuity -- as long as it continues making the films. Fox has the same arrangement on Marvel Comics properties X-Men, Daredevil and Silver Surfer. Marvel is a producer and financial participant through a licensing agreement. Read Article
