You might remember, that before the cast of Star Trek was officially announced, it was widely rumored that JJ Abrams wanted Matt Damon to play Captain James T Kirk. It has been one of those internet rumors that has become sort of a mystery, with different sides giving different "stories." IGN asked Damon about the reports during the Bourne Ultimatum junket, and Matt brushed it off as a simple "internet rumor". When asked if he was offered the role of James T Kirk in the Star Trek reboot, Damon responded with the following:
"I know JJ, and I talked to him and said 'what is the deal?' and he said 'no. the Kirk in my movie is much younger. These are the early years... I think he's hiring a twenty year old actor..."
Nearly two years later, JJ Abrams finally admitted that he had approached Damon for a part in Trek, but Damon turned ...
Script For William Shatners Excised Star Trek Cameo Revealed
EDIT: When I originally ran this an hour ago, I completely forgot that we'd basically presented this before, a point which the first comments were quick to point out. (It's not the end of the world, guys, really.) But there is new content here -- this is the first time we've been able to link to the actual scripted scene, rather than just a description. If that's bait enough for you, then by all means carry on. Original article follows.
Now that Star Trek is out on DVD you can review the surprisingly successful J.J. Abrams film in all its glory. What you won't see in any extra material on the disc, however, is the scene scripted early on that would have brought William Shatner into the film as the original incarnation of Captain Kirk. Personally, I didn't miss him, but it's easy to say that in hindsight. Check out what might ...

Is Nestor Carbonell Khan in the next Star Trek?
Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:48 AM | From MovieJungle
According to sources, Nestor Carbonell who plays Richard Alpert on J.J. Abrams' TV series "Lost," could be the one who plays Khan. Khan was previously played by Ricardo Montalban in the second "Trek" called "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" which was released back in 1982.
"Wrath of Khan" earned a big $97 million worldwide back in the day and set a world record for a first day gross. Khan Noonien Singh was a genetically enhanced superhuman who used his intellect as well as his strength to rule Earth for a brief time in 1900. The character uses his anger at his wife's passing to justify his pursuit of Kirk.
The first "Star Trek" which was helmed by Abrams and has just been released for home entertainment, opened on May 8th this year and grossed over $257 million in the U.S. as well as $127 million overseas.
Alien Legion, The Grittier Star Trek, Goes For The Screen
Wednesday, November 18, 2009 8:52 AM | From Cinema Blend
For a large part of this decade science fiction wasn't really getting anywhere-- it was all about fantastical Lord of the Rings knockoffs and superhero movies, of course. But two things happened simultaneously to change all that-- the craze for graphic novel adaptations inevitably ran into the fact that a lot of them are set in outer space, and Star Trek was a hit, proving that, duh, people will still see space movies if they're actually interesting.
Combining those new ...

J.J. Abrams Teases Star Trek 2 Details; His Return, and the Possibility of Khan
Wednesday, November 18, 2009 12:56 AM | From /Film
Star Trek 2 details are floating all over the place following a recent event to promote the film's DVD and Bluray release. Sci Fi Wire reports that both J.J. Abrams and writer/producer Damon Lindelof have stated that 2012 is pretty much the earliest we can expect the film, especially since they haven't started writing yet and are still bouncing ideas around. Abrams also won't confirm he's directing the sequel since it makes little sense for him to commit to a film with no script.
And even though everyone wants Khan to be the next villain, they're still not any closer to confirming the former villain's place in the story. Right now it seems like they're just keeping everything open.
More details, and a Khan casting rumor after the break.
Lindelof also mentioned that they're interested in playing with time in the sequel. Given his experience with time shifting narratives in Lost, and that ...
