Wednesday, October 21, 2009 12:28 PM | From Dread Central

Exclusive: Rob Hall is Running with the DevilLast week casting news starting coming in on the upcoming project Devil, which is being helmed by John Dowdle (Quarantine). And now we have some details on just who is going to be bringing the Devil to life.

The special effects for Devil are being created by Robert Hall and Almost Human Studios. Hall, who wrote and directed (and created some pretty badass kills for) recent Grimmy-winner Laid to Rest, previously worked with Dowdle on Quarantine.

Almost Human recently created effects for the upcoming flick The Crazies, as well as for The Burrowers and the FEARNet web series (which Hall also helmed) "Fear Clinic."

"I am thrilled to get to work with the Dowdles again after collaborating with them on Quarantine," said Hall. "Even though I can't really discuss the plot details for Devil, what I can say is that this is one of the best scripts I have read in a while, and I am very happy to be a part of the project."

Devil is based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan and falls under the new Night Chronicles banner that teams up Shyamalan with Media Rights Capital to bring fans a genre flick once a year for the next three years.

Serving as producers on Devil are Sam Mercer, Drew Dowdle, and Shyamalan. Filming starts in Toronto on October 26th.

Why Dont You Spoil The Ending with the Poster? -- Dellamorte reviews QUARANTINE on Blu-ray

Sunday, March 1, 2009 2:14 PM | From Collider
Quarantine is from all accounts a shot for shot remake of a 2007 Spanish film called [REC]. The premise the same a news reporter (here, Jennifer Carpenter) follows around a firefighting unit one night when theyre sent to a tenement. The firefighters (including Jay Hernandez and Jonathan Schaech) have to deal with an old woman gone crazy, but once they get in the building it becomes quarantined, and the power gets cut off. The building manager (Rade Serbedzija) is of no help, and it turns out a number of the tenants are infected by what appears to be a strain of rabies that is immediately transferred and fatal, or at least thats what Veterinarian Lawrence (Greg Germann) thinks, anyway. One camera faux-doc horror has been done before (Blair Witch Project), and earlier in 2008, real-time horror was the film of the moment ... Read Article

Who Needs a Quarantine or Lies ... ?

Sunday, October 12, 2008 11:35 AM | From ComingSoon
The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Four new movies opened in wide release this weekend but despite a plethora of starpower and strong genres, nothing was able to dethrone Disney's Beverly Hills Chihuahua , which remained on top with an estimated $17.5 million to bring its total to $52.4 million. The biggest surprise of the weekend might have been the R-rated horror movie Quarantine (Screen Gems) winning the weekend over Ridley Scott's latest Body of Lies , despite its dual starpower in Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. The Screen Gems horror movie brought in an estimated $14.2 million in 2,461 theaters, averaging $5700 per site, while Scott's political thriller ended up with $13.1 million in 250 more theaters. Quarantine leads Friday box office

Saturday, October 11, 2008 2:42 PM | From The Screening Log

John Erick Dowdles Quarantine topped the North American box office Friday with an estimated $5.3 million in ticket sales. It was an easy win for the horror remake, which debuted at 2,461 locations this weekend.

Following in second place was last weekends champion Beverly Hills Chihuahua, which took home another $4.5 million to reach a domestic total of $39.5 million after one week in release.

At No. 3, new entry Body of Lies collected $4.3 million. Directed by Ridley Scott, the film stars Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio as two CIA agents struggling to locate a terrorist.

The remaining wide releases of the weekend had troubles competing against existing box office players. The Express debuted in sixth place with $1.5 million, while Gil Kenans family adventure City of Ember only made it to No. 11 with a disappointing $950,000.

Still going strong was D.J. Carusos action thriller Eagle Eye, which ranked fourth with a Friday gross of $3.2 million. Following at No. 5 was Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist with $2.1 million.
