FX artist is NOT ALONE directing 1st feature; exclusive images

Monday, September 21, 2009 12:49 PM | From Fangoria
NOTALONETHUMBNOT ALONE, the debut feature from British FX artist-turned-director Tristan Versluis, is midway through its three-week shoot. Though set in 1957 on the East Coast of the United States, Versluis and his cast and crew are shooting in locations around England; he sent along a few exclusive early photos, which you can see below.

Lucy Benjamin, familiar to UK audiences from five years on the BBC soap EASTENDERS, stars as Eli, an emotionally damaged young woman who arrives at an abandoned family cabin with a head full of nightmares and a car trunk full of unburied secrets. Before long, her nightmares turn real and the things that stalk her mind become the walking, talking demons that are found inside everyones soul. Trapped by her own doingor imprisoned by some unseen motion set in action by someone elseEli soon starts to spiral into a reality she has lost control of many times before.

NOTALONENEWS1

With an FX résumé that includes Jake Wests EVIL ALIENS and Adam Masons BROKEN and THE DEVILS CHAIR, plus work on bigger pictures such as SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN, Versluis has a great deal of genre experience. In recent years, he has honed his directing skills with a trio of shorts, most notably the almost wordless I LOVE YOU. Doing my shorts has been a learning curve on how to deal and manage a cast and crew, Versluis tells Fango. Im now taking this knowledge onto my feature, allowing me to shape and refine my storytelling skills.

NOTALONENEWS2

Produced by Andy (THE SCAR CROW) Thompson, the film features production design by Melanie Light and photography by Stuart Nicholas White, both of whom have worked with Versluis on his previous works. The small cast also features soap actors Bill Ward and Kika Mirylees, plus Alexandra (DOCTOR WHO) Moen. Weve still got another 10 days to go, but everything is looking fantastic! Thompson raves. Were really pleased with the production. The mood and landscape of 1950s northeast-coast America is a perfect setting for the chilling horror!

NOTALONENEWS3

NOT ALONE is a haunting, family-based horror film, really, Versluis adds. By which I mean I wanted to make a story as much about atmosphere and horror as character and plot. I have tried to move away from an effects-heavy approach; nevertheless, there are still some tasty effects! This movie reflects a lot which has been residing in my shorts so far, about human personality and how crazy it can be. Only this time, Im just pushing it up a bar higher!

NOT ALONE is expected to wrap principal photography on September 26, and will be released next year. For more on the film, go to its official website.

First Look: The Chronicles of Narnia Ship the Dawn Treader

Monday, August 17, 2009 6:42 PM | From FirstShowing.net
Hopefully you didn't forget, but The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is actually in-production at 20th Century Fox. Disney dumped the Chronicles of Narnia franchise last year after Prince Caspian performed poorly, mainly due to marketing problems since that movie and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe were disconnected in setting and tone, among other things. Fox stepped up and now they're shelling out millions to get it made. From the looks of it, though, they might have a "replacement" movie for Pirates of the Caribbean, as Disney is behind on getting the fourth movie ready. An endless amount of photos of the Dawn Treader have been leaking out, but ComingSoon landed the first batch of photos of the entire thing completed and ready to go, which I thought was finally worth featuring. C.S. Lewis' The Voyage of the Dawn Treader follows the two youngest Pevensies siblings, ... Read Article

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Blu-ray 3-Disc Digital Copy Review

By Peter Dimako, Editor

An incredible amount of features are awaiting the keen buyer of Disneys The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian in a 3-Disc Blu-ray Digital Copy.

When comparing this with the first film? The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe pushed past the amateur acting skills of its leading cast thanks to a dedicated screenplay by South African screenwriter Ann Peacock.  The second film is a darker offering and one unsuited to children. There is just too much violence to recommend that a parent allow their younger children access to this.

The Harry Potter films seem to be in the same rhythm of late; this was started by Christopher Nolans interpretation of Batman Begins and the recent follow-up The Dark Knight which is a gargantuan leap to the dark side since the earlier films.

Additionally, the screenplay by helmer Andrew Adamson, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely fails to capture the magic of the C.S. Lewis written Caspian that Peacock did so well before.

As I said before, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell, the leading cast from of the first film, have not improved their acting talents and could turn in a few hours with a coach.

An amusing but overall lackluster adventure which misses the mark compared to the first film.

Blu-ray Features:

Feature fans rejoice. Theres a lot to enjoy here.

There are 3 discs included with of course the one being a Digital Copy which a buyer can drop into their computer and watch via ITunes or Windows Media Player.

Disc one contains Circle Vision Interactive: Creating the Castle Raid and BD-Live; both exclusive to Disney and Blu-ray.

Theres also audio commentary with Andrew Adamson as well as the actors.

Disc Two:

Although there may be just a single item available on the menu labeled as Behind-the-Magic, youll find plenty of interesting features. Here are the features broken down:
