Geek Deal: Three Blu-Ray Movie Packs for $25

Saturday, November 21, 2009 4:20 PM | From /Film
Amazon has some awesome deals on some select three Blu-Ray movie packs. Each of the listed packs below is only $24.99 each, and also comes with $5 credit towards select Amazon on-demand TV-Shows. That's basically $8.33 for each Blu-ray disc. Action Collection: Jumper, Transporter, Transports 2 Action Hero Collection: The Day After Tomorrow, I, Robot, The Terminator Hard Action Collection: Hitman, Street Kings, Man on Fire War Hero Collection: Behind Enemy Lines, Patton, Rescue Dawn Funny Guy Collection: Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space, Young Frankenstein Jock Collection: Dodgeball, Hoosiers, Rocky I always find it amusing how these three packs are grouped. They usually contain one or two good movies and a film you'd never ever buy. But at the price, it's probably still worth it for the two movies you do like. The Funny Guy Collection is probably the one exception, unless you're one of those people that hated Napoleon. Read Article

Jon Heder gets a show on Comedy Central produced by Will Ferrell who may appear.

Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:48 AM | From MovieJungle

According to sources, Jon Heder, star of "Napoleon Dynamite" has teamed with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay for a unique Comedy Central sitcom deal that follows in Tyler Perry's footsteps.

Apparently the network has ordered up ten episodes of the comedy frontlined by Heder who stars as an unemployed computer IT specialist. He returns home to his small town and moves back in with the folks and his younger brother. Ferrell fans may be in for a treat as perhaps he may opt for an appearance or two.

If this does well, the network will notch up another 90 episodes from Gary Sanchez Productions and distributor Debmar-Mercury.

Heder and Ferrell starred together in the uproariously funny "Blades of Glory."

A letter from Dynamite

Tuesday, November 17, 2009 7:56 AM | From Joblo.Com
I have no idea where the people from Twitch got that, maybe it was sent directly to them -they don't say- but the site posted an open letter apparently from BLACK DYNAMITE himself, Michael Jai White, where he both thanks and appeals to the movie's fans. Here it is, in hopefully his on words: Dear Black Dynamite fans: I can tell by watching the activity on the Internet that people around the world are... Read More... Read Article

Fox Searchlight Reins in Release Plans for Gentlemen Broncos

Thursday, November 5, 2009 2:48 AM | From Film Junk
Things aren't looking so good for Jared Hess' latest comedy Gentlemen Broncos. The movie hit theatres last week on just 2 screens, and despite plans to expand further in the coming weeks, it appears that the movie's release is now being scaled back as a result of bad reviews. A number of critics have received a notice this week from Fox Searchlight stating that the movie will no longer be opening in their market. It is unclear if they will still follow through with the previously scheduled roll out [1] for the next two weeks, but it certainly won't be progressing beyond that. DVD will likely be the venue for most of us to see it. Truth be told, there were signs of trouble when the movie premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin back in September; it received a wave of negative reviews and was quickly forgotten. Now it seems that Fox Searchlight is hoping that it will stay forgotten. (As pointed out by Get The Big Picture [2], 2009 hasn't been kind to Fox Searchlight, which hurts even more because this is the same studio who put out Slumdog Millionaire and The Wrestler last year.) Still, I can't help but want to witness Gentlemen Broncos with my own eyes. Hess has always been a bit of an acquired taste, and most people will tell you that Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre only get better with repeat viewings. Plus I refuse to believe that anything starring Jemaine Clement can be all bad. Has anyone out there seen Gentlemen Broncos yet? Are you surprised by this news? is GENTLEMEN BRONCOS D.O.A???

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 8:36 PM | From GeekTyrant

In my review of Gentlemen Broncos, the latest comedy from director Jared Hess(Napoleon Dynamite/Nacho Libre), I summed up my thoughts on the film by commending “Hess ability to make even the most unrelatable characters likeable, and the smallest moments memorable.” But considering some of the film’s faults, I then closed by begging the question: “Will Gentlemen Broncos [...] Read Article

Review: Gentlemen Broncos

Saturday, October 31, 2009 6:49 AM | From Cinematical

By Peter Hall (reprinted from 9/28/09 -- Fantastic Fest review)

Quirkiness only carries so far. Napoleon Dynamite, the film that ushered in the career of Gentlemen Broncos director Jared Hess, is enjoyable because it cherishes the nervous twitches of puberty, identity crisis, and the weird kind of people who worship at Walmart strip malls. The director embraced his small-town roots to assemble a film in love with those who don't have any station in life, who have no big conflict in their mundane lives, and who have no particularly interesting story to tell, either. Hess' latest film, on the other hand, does have an interesting story to tell and it does have a three-act conventional conflict, but it barrels past being quirky into the weird-for-weird's-sake hinterland of comedy where subtlety is abolished in favor of broad, hit-and-miss gags.

Gentlemen Broncos could have been great. It's about a teenage boy (Michael Angarano) whose fantasy novel featuring an underdog hero on a nonsensical planet (Sam Rockwell) is stolen by not only his washed-up hero author (Jemaine Clement) at a crash-course writing camp, but two insufferable "friends" who want to turn the story into their cinematic gateway to Hollywood. The film often wanders out of the real-world of poor Benjamin's unenviable life and into the entertaining fantasy world of his childish writings, but for the most part it feels as directionless as the confused boy we're supposed to be rooting for.

Fred Rides Gentlemen Broncos

Friday, October 30, 2009 2:21 AM | From CanMag.Com
Gentlemen Broncos continues the comedy style that Jared Hess started with Napoleon Dynamite and brought to Hollywood in Nacho Libre. It’s that slightly off (by Hollywood standards) tone that’s funny, but they’re not making jokes.

Review: Gentlemen Broncos
It’s not really that sophisticated. A seminar on naming sci-fi characters is really just about saying funny sounds. The sci-fi sequences are full of bodily humor, and there’s a ton of poop and vomit. They do make a highbrow teabagging joke. That’s indie style ball jokes.

But it’s just so weird. A cute girl asks for tampon money. Then she squeezes into a seat on a bus with two other guys and makes one give her a hand massage slathered in lotion. Read Article

Gentlemen Broncos Review

Thursday, October 29, 2009 5:35 PM | From IGN Movies
There's a fine line between whimsical and weird, between stupid and strange, and the uber-quirky Gentlemen Broncos unfortunately lives on the wrong side of it. Writer-director Jared Hess, best known for creating that over-hyped, though semi-charming cult favorite Napoleon Dynamite, returns with his third film -- a bizarre take on B-grade sci-fi literature that drowns in a sizeable pool of its own ridiculousness. Hess creates a relatively believable, lower-class, Mid-Western world and fills it with lifeless, unbelievable characters who, unlike Napoleon before them, can't be redeemed by their own personal oddities.

Exclusive Interview: Gentlemen Broncos Director Jared Hess

Thursday, October 29, 2009 9:00 AM | From Cinema Blend
Jared Hess, like it or not, will on some level always be the guy who directed Napoleon Dynamite. Not only was that movie such an unexpected hit, launching years worth of catchphrases and Halloween costumes, but it made such good use of the bizarre rural Utah landscape than any movie filmed there again would automatically be compared to Napoleon's world. But Hess wasn't too worried about that as he went to make Gentlemen Broncos, set in the same mountainous world ... Read Article
