It’s weird when look back at The Goonies, because it was so much apart of your childhood. Can you imagine what it would be like to be one of the stars of the film or to be the director?
The 25th Anniversary of The Goonies isn’t until next year, and there hasn’t been any new developments [...]
Usually we post EPK material before the movie comes out, not 24 years after the movie came out. But then again most movies aren't THE GOONIES. Just yesterday I was watching the classic "Chunk's Confession" scene and it was cracking me up. Now today this "Making of THE GOONIES" featurette is floating around the web and for fans of the 80s adventure/comedy, it's a fascinating look into the making of the film. As you might expect, it's all set to the tune of Cyndi...

I recently rediscovered this vintage 1980's EPK documentary The Making of The Goonies on uniquedaily. I remember seeing this seven minute behind the scenes doc when I was younger. I love how a big focus of the piece is how director Richard Donner struggled to work with kid stars. And its always fun to see behind the scenes footage from one of your favorite childhood films. I wonder if Warner Bros has a lot more behind the scenes footage in a vault somewhere. Would love to see them release a longer cut of some of this stuff when Goonies hits Blu-ray.
Chris Columbus used to be the man when it came to kids movies. He created a teen classic in The Goonies which he wrote and Adventures in Babysitting which he directed. Then he went younger with Home Alone and Harry Potter. I Love You, Beth Cooper is his first return to the teen genre that did him so well.
Chris Columbus on I Love You, Beth Cooper
“You have to go back to Adventures in Babysitting,” Columbus said. “That’s where you’ve got to start. For me, the reason I did this movie was that I was in a situation where you have big budgets, like with the Harry Potter movie, and you tend to work at a slightly slower pace, and you become spoiled and a little soft. I thought, ‘I need to reinvigorate the process of filmmaking.’ I wanted to go back to that, and I said to myself, ‘If I were getting out of film school right now and I was starting to direct my first movie, what would I do?’ And, I went back and looked at the movies I had written, Gremlins and Goonies, and then I looked at the first movie I directed, which was Adventures in Babysitting. This had been sitting in our office as a book, and Hayden [Panettiere] was attached to it, and I thought, ‘Well, this could be a companion piece to Adventures in Babysitting.’ This gave me an opportunity to do a movie on a lower budget, fairly quickly, with a brand new cast, and try to recreate that energy for a filmmaker, like myself, who’s been given a lot of money to make movies.”
Another Vague Hint That The Goonies Sequel Might Not Be Dead
Do you want a sequel to The Goonies? Really? Well, you might be in luck. The original's scriptwriter Chris Columbus has been speaking to Sci-Fi Wire about the possible new picture, revealing that Joe Pantoliano, who is starring in Columbus' Percy Jackson and was Francis Fratelli in the original Goonies, has had some relevant chatter with Richard Donner. Quotes on that coming up after the break, as well as Columbus' rather glib proposal on what adventure the next gen Goonies could face.
Here's Columbus:
[Joe Pantoliano] said that Richard Donner talked to him about six months ago about the sequel. I think the only way it could be done is if the kids are now the parents, and their kids have become the Goonies. I still think the two brothers are still alive and well, so they could still be in the movie. So it's a matter of whether or not they ...
Over the last couple of years there have been talks of "The Goonies" sequel, but nothing ever materialized. Then about two months ago, the cast and crew of the film got together for Empire magazine's 20th anniversary. Actor Corey Feldman mentioned that he hoped this gathering would have inspired Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg to push forward with "The Goonies 2."
THE GOONIES Sequel still possible Goonies Never Say Die!
Quite a few false alarms have been pulled over the years on a sequel to the 1985 classic The Goonies. Even with the cast reuniting for the upcoming 25th Anniversary DVD release of The Goonies, talk of a sequel quickly fell victim to the reality of scheduling conflicts with the film’s cast. Several members of [...]
Admittedly, these aren't all cool. But there are definitely enough in there to make you happy. I'm not sure where people got the kind of creativity or artistic talent to do shit like this but where was I when they were handing that stuff out? My mom always tells me that I should be grateful I am so handsome and charming, but that's all well and good when I'm trying to hook up with supermodels, but what about when I...
