Brett Cullen joins The Runaways

Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:48 AM | From MovieJungle

Brett Cullen will join the cast of River Road's "The Runaways," a tale of Joan Jett and her band. Apparently, he'll play the alcoholic father of Runaway member Cherie Currie (played by Dakota Fanning). The role will be taking from Currie's memoir "Neon Angel" which documented her addition.

Veteran on both film and TV offerings, Cullen's previous credits include "Gridiron Gang," "National Treasure," "The Life Before Her Eyes" and "Ghost Rider." One of the most memorable performances I would say is his role in J.J. Abrams' "Lost" series as Goodwin.

Gary Ross to write and direct Venom Spider-Man spinoff.

Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:48 AM | From MovieJungle

Gary Ross ("Seabiscuit," "Pleasantville") who is already rewritting "Spider-Man 4" for Columbia Pictures, is now making a deal to write and direct "Venom," a spinoff of series.

Marvel Entertainment's Avi Arad will produce with Ross. The story tells of Venom, an archenemy of Spider-Man who will be transformed into an antihero who defends the innocent.

In "Spider-Man 3," Venom was played by Topher Grace who started out as Eddie Brock, a competitive photographer and Peter Parker's rival. After he's infected with the black, alien organism which grafts itself to his sckin, Brock develops superpowers and strength far greater than Spider-Man's.

Grace, who just signed on to Fox's "Predators," is unlikely to reprise his role.

Columbia is also developing another "Ghost Rider," as if the first film wasn't bad enough.

Goyer says Ghost Rider 2 not a reboot.

Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:48 AM | From MovieJungle

For those wondering whether the screenplay for the next "Ghost Rider" (now moving from an R rating to a PG-13 rating) would somehow reboot the franchise, MTV News asked Goyer the same question. He said "It's not exactly a reboot. I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'"

According to Goyer, the sequel is planning to start filming next year. He also said that Nicolas Cage is still attached to play the role of Johnny Blaze.

The first film clocked in a big $228 million in worldwide sales.

"This story picks up eight years after the first film," said Goyer. "You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place."

Ghost Rider 2 Not A Reboot

Saturday, November 7, 2009 11:24 AM | From HorrorMovies.ca
To be quite honest, Ghost Rider was one of those movies where I felt it wasn't completely terrible but at the same time, it failed to 'wow' me.  I didn't walk away with much of desire to see more of the flaming skull rider.  However, the involvement of David Goyer has somewhat peaked my interest.

Speaking with MTV, Goyer commented the planned sequel is not really a reboot, but instead takes place some years later.  "It's not exactly a reboot...I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker.  It's definitely changing tone.  What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider'...this story picks up eight years after the first film...It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film.  It's as if you took the same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later, he's just in a much darker, existential place."

Hm, I think I might have to side with Goyer on this one.  With the recent string of reboots to various franchies we usually do get some of an origin story.  So simply starting with Johnny Blaze already as Ghost Rider and continuing on from there, yeah I think I might be interested in seeing this. While it will be a PG-13, post Dark Knight I think that the line of PG13 have been seriously pushed closer and possibly slightly over the R rated line.  We'll bring more word as things develop.

David Goyer: Ghost Rider Sequel Not a Reboot

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 5:40 PM | From Screen Rant
The sequel to Ghost Rider is going to happen. Just deal with the reality and move on. You can whine all you want about how poorly done the first one was, in acting, script and direction, but that wont change the fact the Ghost Rider 2 is on its way like a flame- skulled demon [...] Read Article

No District 9 Sequel Until Jackson & Blomkamp Are Ready

Monday, November 2, 2009 3:49 PM | From FirstShowing.net
Isn't weird that even though a movie makes lots of money and is considered a huge success, no one wants to see a sequel. And yet movies that barely make any money somehow get sequels that no one wants (e.g. Ghost Rider)? Well, the good news is that we probably won't see a District 9 sequel for a few years. That's good because I don't want a sequel to be rushed into production. But it's also bad because I'd actually like to see them make District 10 at some point. Over on Deadline Hollywood, Nikki Finke has a new update saying, basically, that Neill Blomkamp and Peter Jackson won't come back unless (or until) they figure out a story. But those close to producer Peter Jackson and director Neill Blomkamp say only it may happen "at some point" when the duo "figure out what the story is and organize their respective schedules". (Peter is ... Read Article
