What's the best way to announce new cast for a movie about Facebook? On Facebook, of course! The Playlist tracked down a series of tweets and Facebook posts to discover that several young actors have been added to the cast of The Social Network, a movie already starring Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield. They're mostly names you won't know, so we may as well hear it in Sorkin's own Facebook words: "Rehearsals began yesterday for The Social Network. ... Read Article

Friday, September 25, 2009 8:50 AM | From The Moving Picture
Confirming earlier rumors, it has now been announced that Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield have signed on to star in The Social Network, a story about the founders of the social-networking website Facebook. David Fincher is directing from a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin and the film is based on the Ben Mezrich book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal. Eisenberg, star of the upcoming horror-comedy Zombieland, will play Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg; Timberlake will play Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who became Facebook's founding president; and Garfield (Lions for Lambs) will play Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder who fell out with Zuckerberg over money. The script focuses on the evolution of Facebook, the online social network created in 2004 on the Harvard campus, and how overnight success and wealth changed the lives of the classmates who created it. Production will begin next month in Boston and then move to Los Angeles. Read Article

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 12:35 AM | From /Film
Variety has confirmed a casting rumor report from last month for David Fincher big screen adaptation of The Social Network. Jesse Eisenberg has signed to play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (how perfect is that casting?), Andrew Garfield is set to play Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, and Justin Timberlake will play internet entrepreneur Sean Parker (Napster). Production will begin next month in Boston and later move to Los Angeles. As I have said previously, this is shaping up to be a very solid cast. If you kn ow anything about these characters, I think you'd agree. I don't normally like Timberlake, but anyone who knows the story for the film or has read the book will know he's the perfect person to play Parker. Garfield broke onto the scene with a Award-winning performance in Boy A, and has since appeared in Lions for Lambs, The Other Boleyn Girl, Red Riding, and The ... Read Article

David Fincher’s “The Social Network” has now found its cast. According to a rumor that popped up on Facebook itself, Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Andrew Garfield is set to play Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, and that Justin Timberlake will play internet entrepreneur Sean Parker (Napster). If true, this is shaping up to be a very solid cast, but what else would you expect from a Fincher production? In the history of unmotivated super heroes, there’s usually some terrible event that triggers the protagonist’s transformation from selfish loner to noble champion. For Spider-Man it was the preventable death of his uncle. For Booster Gold it was the violent demise of pal Blue Beetle. For Garfield? It’s apparently a spoiled opportunity to enjoy hotdogs [...] Read Article

The Garfield movie got a sequel. The Scooby-Doo movie got a sequel. But Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, which pulled in far more at the box office than either of those wearisome live-action adaptations of childrens entertainment properties, still has not seen a follow-up. And Snicket had Jim Carrey. Not to mention more [...] Read Article
