B-Side Teams With Sundance: Genius!

Monday, November 16, 2009 5:04 PM | From Cinematical

To anyone who's ever attended Slamdance, AFI Fest, Silverdocs, Fantastic Fest, or any number of great film festivals, B-Side is a gift from the heavens. It's a remarkably user-friendly website that creates scheduling and ticketing services for well over 200 festivals around the world ... and now they're headed to Park City. This is a big leap for the B-Side boys, not because they haven't dealt with large and excellent fests before, but c'mon ... this is Sundance. She's a biggie.

To get a taste of what B-Side is like, check out the set-up they put together for the Santa Fe Film Festival. Now imagine that for Sundance! Congrats to our friends at B-Side, because I'm sure they've yearned to take on Sundance for a while now. Based on my rather thorough experiences with both Sundance and B-Side, this marriage makes me very happy indeed. If ever there was a festival that could benefit from B-Side's 'Festival Genius' application, it's Sundance. Next stop, Toronto!

Men Who Stare At Goats Featurette: Meet The Evil Genius

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 10:56 PM | From Cinema Blend
Well, that didn't take long. The fourth and final character trailer for The Men Who Stare At Goats is now online, merely a few hours after the last. Completing the quadrumvirate (yes, it's a word, look it up) is Kevin Spacey's evil genius, Larry Hooper, who, and I'm just spit-balling here, is probably the film's main bad guy. Much like Lyn Cassady, Larry Hooper was trained as a psychic spy during the first Gulf War, but it would seem that ... Read Article

Screenwriter Says The Flash Movie is Still Moving Forward!

Wednesday, October 7, 2009 4:49 PM | From FirstShowing.net
Yesterday a report hit the web with quotes from The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven who had said that his rights to an adaptation of The Flash had been reeled in by the newly created DC Entertainment. They are pulling every comic book adaptation back in that isn't ready to go so that they can control the franchises a lot more closely. Roven had said that his version of The Flash really wasn't ready, so most fans thought this meant a Flash movie was dead again or at least not happening for a while. However, screenwriter Dan Mazeau contacted IGN yesterday and gave them a very positive update on the current status of The Flash. "Just to chime in on your latest article: The Flash has not been hobbled. Everything is moving forward as planned," Mazeau explained. "I'm still writing the script. Geoff Johns is still consulting. Our Favorite Montages: Real Genius

Thursday, September 17, 2009 6:07 PM | From Cinematical

Of the "nerdy science kid" movies of the 1980s, I've always preferred Real Genius over Weird Science, and it has everything to do with young Val Kilmer. Not because he was godlike in his looks, but because he was hilarious in his bunny slippers. Kilmer is one of those actors you just want to shake senseless because he had it all, and chose to blow off his career in so many ways.

But this isn't a post about Kilmer, it's my favorite Real Genius montage. I abruptly remembered it thanks to being up around CU-Boulder a few days ago and realizing the fall semester had just started. I haven't been out of school that long, but it's amazing how quickly you forget the hell rush of class registration, book buying, and trying to decide which of your professors you'll be unable to stand. Every year, this montage popped into my head (which means I probably watched this movie way too many times), and I was all too aware that I was Mitch. My backpack was twice my size because I was so dedicated, I never missed a class, I spent my evenings trying to figure out who Shakespeare's Dark Lady was, and I'm pretty sure I once fell down some stairs because I was reading something. But all that hard work put me right here, posting about my unhealthy memorization of Real Genius!

Jump below for the montage. If you're in college right now, maybe you'll identify with it a little bit.

Five Projects for DCE to Jump On, Day 1: The Flash

Monday, September 14, 2009 5:56 AM | From We Are Movie Geeks

dc comics

On the surface, The Flash may seem too simple of a project to make into a decent movie, but it’s that simplicity of the character that has always intrigued me. As a superhero, The Flash is not complicated. Regardless of which of the four incarnations you reference, The Flash embodies superhuman speed, agility, quick-thinking and intelligence and even the ability to defy certain law of physics, such as being able to vibrate so fast he can walk through walls or leap to alternate dimensions.

For the sake of argument, and popularity, we’ll focus on the most popular incarnation of The Flash.…
