Randall Wallace has been recruited to do a rewrite of Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo," based on the classic Jules Verne character. "Terminator Salvation" helmer McG will direct the film which Sean Bailey of Idealogy is producing alongside McG.
"Captain Nemo" will strive to tell the tale of his origins as well as Nautilus, his submarine warship. Justin Marks and Bill Marsilii worked the sctipt previously.
Sean Connery had starred in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," a fantasy adventure/sci-fi flick in which Nemo and his submarine had a large part.
Nemo No More

Let's see now… what maritime analogy should we use this morning? How about this -- Disney has torpedoed director McG's Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Yes, that will do.
First TERMINATOR 5 gets its head put on the chopping block, and, now, it looks like CAPTAIN NEMO: 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA is getting scuttled indefinitely. It’s not been a good couple of months for McG who was set to begin production on the Disney remake in February. Disney has announced today, and Variety has reported, that production on the film has halted completely. McG has also been pushed aside as the film’s director if and when it ever does get back on track.
This is the first of the films former Disney head Dick Cook announced that has had its…

I couldn’t happier. Disney went ahead and sunk McG’s film, Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The movie was scheduled to begin production in February of next year, but the production has been put on hold indefinitely, McG is no longer captain of the production. I’m not surprised by this news, it was only [...]
No Leagues for McG

The one calling himself McG might not be unanimously appreciated by movie fans, I was still kinda looking forward to his take on a Captain Nemo origins film. Looks like we'll never know if it would've been any good...
Variety brought forth confirmation from Disney that the studio is putting their 20,000 LEAGUES prequel on hold indefinitely -which pretty much means it's dead- while McG's peeps said the man on...

McGs CAPTAIN NEMO Gets Lost at Sea
Tuesday, November 17, 2009 3:52 AM | From Collider
It’s a good thing that McG has a lot of projects going at once because his planned adaptation/spin-of Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea has run aground. Disney has put the picture on indefinite hold after tentatively scheduled to begin shooting this February. However, the closest the film ever came to casting the title [...]

Disney Scuttles 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Monday, November 16, 2009 11:36 PM | From CanMag.Com
They may be calling it a delay or "on hold," but I'm thinking we're not going to see a remake slash origin story of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo any time soon. Though we're not given much reasoning, save for the fact that director McG can put his attention elsewhere, one can assume that having a film involving loads of water might come off too pricey.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo was prepping to begin production but, coming close to the dealine, Walt Disney Pictures has pulled the plug. The studio confirmed that the studio won’t proceed with the film for now, and reps for the director confirmed he has withdrawn. McG will concentrate on other projects that include Dead Spy Running, a Warner Bros. drama that Stephen Gaghan is writing.
