Final Destination holds on for second weekend as Gamer fires blanks for Lionsgate.

Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:48 AM | From MovieJungle

The Final DestinationNew Line Cinema/Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Final Destination” held onto first place for a second weekend running with an estimated $12.3 million weekend gross. Film went on to gross more than $15.4 million over the four day Labor Day weekend frame. Total accumulated for the horror is over $50.5 million from two weekends at play.

Weinstein Co’s “Inglourious Basterds” also kept its ranking in second position with $11.6 million and $15 million earned on three and four day figures, bringing its total cume to over $95 million.
Surprisingly, Fox’s critically-slammed romantic comedy “All About Steve” starring Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper and Thomas Haden Church bested Lionsgate’s “Gamer” opener with Gerard Butler by earning $11.2 million vs. $9.1 million.
“Steve” debuted in 2,251 venues and averaged $6,175.03 and went on to add a further $2.7 million from Monday estimates. “Gamer” turned in an overall disappointing effort after much hype, averaging a paltry $4,476 per theatre.
The Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor-helmed and written film is now the second of the Gerard Butler starrers (the other being Sony’s “The Ugly Truth” with Katherine Heigl) which have not performed up to scratch.
Sony’s excellent “District 9” science fiction actioner, one of the best offerings of the year, finishes off the top five films this weekend.
Year-to-date estimates reflect that 2009 has chalked up around $7.4 billion vs. last year’s $6.8 billion. Revenue is up by 7.76% and attendance up by 3.86%. This is the fifth “up” weekend after four “down” weekends.
The top film at the same time last year was the uproariously funny “Tropic Thunder” followed by “Babylon A.D.,” “The Dark Knight,” “The House Bunny” and “Traitor.”

The Final Destination Crashes onto Blu-ray and DVD

Thursday, November 5, 2009 5:44 PM | From Dread Central

The very gimmick-heavy fourth entry into Death's favorite franchise, The Final Destination, will be coming roaring home to Blu-ray and DVD on January 5th, 2010, along with some good and bad news.

For a limited time the Blu-ray will feature both 2D and 3D versions of the flick along with 2 pairs of 3D glasses. The DVD? Not so much. Also exclusive to Blu-ray will be:

  • Two Alternate Endings
  • Body Counts: The Deaths of The Final Destination featurette
  • Pre-Visualization/Storyboard segments
  • Exclusive Features via BD-Live
  • Digital Copy of the movie

Sorry, DVD owners. You're missing out again.

    Synopsis
On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O'Bannon (Bobby Campo) has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare, Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori (Shantel VanSanten), and their friends, Janet (Haley Webb) and Hunt (Nick Zano), to leave...escaping seconds before Nick's frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they've cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As his premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one--in increasingly gruesome ways--Nick must figure out how to cheat death once and for all before he, too, reaches his final destination. The film marks the latest in the highly popular "Final Destination" series, and its first 3D installment, giving horror fans an especially visceral thrill ride.

    Tuesday, October 20, 2009 11:35 AM | From HorrorMovies.ca
It’s very refreshing to go see a new original horror movie and actually like it. Here lately I’ve been having to watch a lot of Independent horror films since Hollywood puts out mostly crap. Such as The Collector and The Final Destination, but Zombieland isn’t like those. It’s a very good horror and comedy movie. I can’t say I’m surprised, the trailer looked gre... Read Article

Check This Out: Sequels That Bombed Box Office Graphic

    Tuesday, October 6, 2009 9:42 PM | From FirstShowing.net
I love the graphics that MovieFill makes. We've featured plenty of them before (the $400 Million Club one most recently) and now they've got another one that I've got to share! It's called simply Sequels That Bombed and is inspired by the overwhelming success of The Final Destination, as they say it should've failed miserably (and didn't). So instead, they chart the biggest sequel bombs from 1982 to 2009. "Most of the films we included made under $35 million. A few (Blair Witch 2, Analyze That), made over $35 but were still considered bombs because of the significant drop in sales from their predecessor. Bombs away!" Some of the movies on here just deserved to die a miserable box office death, but others are a bit shocking. Some of the big ones that I am still surprised by are: Jason X, Analyze That, The Whole Ten Yards, etc. The funny thing ... Read Article
