Summit Entertainment is developing a remake of the cult classic about immortals. Justin Lin will direct with a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man). The film will expand on the mythology of immortals battling each other.
While Lin is known for b-level Hollywood productions such as Tokyo Drift and Fast & Furious, he did an excellent job with Better Luck Tomorrow. I'm not worried about Lin's involvement it's Summit Entertainment, since the biggest film they've produced is Twilight.
Casting Thoughts
Kevin McKidd (Dog Soldiers, Rome) or Gerard Butler (Gamer) could make an excellent MacLeod.
Summit Entertainment has announced that Justin Lin will direct a re-imagination (ie reboot) of Highlander. Of course, Summit hopes that this reboot with "spur a new franchise for the studio."
Lin made his name with the awesome High School-based indie crime drama Better Luck Tomorrow in 2002 (if you haven't seen it, add it to your netflix queue), but has since turned out mostly generic Hollywood crap like Annapolis, Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast & Furious. The good news is that Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are working on the new take, which will expand on Highlander's original core mythology of immortals battling amongst us, hunting each other through the ages by tapping its newly minted creative team to take its re-imagination to new heights.

Summit Rebooting Highlander with a Fast & Furious Director
Wow, this came out of nowhere, right? Summit Entertainment announced today that they're bringing the Fast & Furious team over to their boat to reboot and re-imagine Highlander . Neal H. Moritz is producing and Justin Lin, who also directed The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, is set to direct. The good news is that Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who together wrote Iron Man and Punisher: War Zone, are attached to write the screenplay. Peter Davis, long time producer of Highlander films, will also produce. Summit's film will expand on the original Highlander's core mythology of immortals battling amongst us. Exciting!
If you didn't get it, that was a joke. "We are privileged to have this amazing opportunity to reinvent one of the great franchises," said Patrick Wachsberger, co-chairman of Summit Entertainment. This Week on DVD: Fast & Furious, Battlestar Galactica 4.5, Dollhouse
If you live life a quarter mile at a time you might want to pick up Fast & Furious on DVD or Blu-ray today, but if you don't, well there isn't much else to choose from. Dragonball: Evolution and Miss March are in stores this week along with the animated Green Lantern: First Flight movie and a couple of Magnet imports, Big Man Japan and Severed Ways: The Norse Discovery of America. Meanwhile, sci-fi junkies are probably eager to revisit the final season of Battlestar Galactica and possibly give Joss Whedon's Dollhouse another chance on DVD, but if you ask me the week's only essential release is This is Spinal Tap on Blu-ray.
