Disney Making Two More Nature Films

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 1:14 PM | From Cinema Blend
Earth, the Planet Earth knockoff from Disney's new Disneynature label, hasn't made much of an impact at the box office here, $29 million as of this weekend. But overseas it's grossed over $80 million, and we all know what that means. Time for a sequel! Well, sorta. Disneynature has hired Earth directors Alastair Fothergill and Mark Linfield to make two more feature-length films, Chimpanzee and African Cats: Kingdom of Courage. THR writes that Cats is being filmed in Kenya right now and ... Read Article

Earth is Great

Saturday, April 25, 2009 1:56 PM | From CanMag.Com
I wouldn’t normally go see a nature documentary, but since it was part of my job, I actually discovered something surprisingly cool. Earth is a really compelling documentary.

Review: Earth
The footage is great. I haven’t seen the Planet Earth version but they certainly use the best for the movie. There’s no filler. It’s going to look great on Blu Ray with all the different scenes, like screen savers with overhead shots of gazelle migration, birds’ flight patterns, dolphins swimming, a walrus pile, whales’ bubble net and Aurora Australis.

Aww, arctic bears and cubs. Baby birds. Ducks learning to fly. Yeah, it’s really f***ing cute. I got to see weird creatures that I’d never see on my own. Other scenes are tense. Predatory animal chases really rev you up, although they cut before the kids would have to see the bloody kill. That would be reality. Read Article

Trailer: Disney Is Back Under The Sea With Oceans

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 6:28 PM | From Cinema Blend
After my difficult experience last night with DisneyNature's new planetary documentary earth, it'll probably be a long time before I willingly walk into another theater expecting elephants. But maybe I can get interested in diving into the world of the Little Mermaid. Next year on Earth Day, Disney's planning another nature-themed theatrical release. This time they're focused entirely on water, with the documentary Oceans. Unlike earth, there's a chance that this one may even contain new footage. Hopefully they'll at ... Read Article

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese talks VENOM Movie and EARTH vs. MOON -- A quick update on how they approached writing Venom and what Earth vs. Moon is about

Thursday, April 9, 2009 3:56 PM | From Collider
Written by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub A few weeks ago I was on the set of Zombieland. While Im under embargo for saying anything more than that, I can say that while there, I was able to talk with writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and they talked about their take on Sonys upcoming Venom movie which they wrote. According to the Paul and Rhett, Sony gave them a bunch of rules when writing the script, but they were still able to write the way they wanted to. The other bit of news they discussed was Earth vs. Moon which is an original idea that they called "a science-fiction epic war movie. According to Reese, its a colony on the moon. And the colony on the moon is fighting Earth. Were very, very excited about it. And weve also turned in a draft on that and are waiting to hear back, so were in early ... Read Article
