The Top 10 Doomsday Horror Films!

Monday, October 26, 2009 3:56 PM | From Bloody-Disgusting
Humankinds fascination with its own extinction has led to some of the most popular and enduring cinematic nightmares ever put to film. Not only is it a cathartic experience to witness the fragile mortality of the entire human race coming to a frightening end before our very eyes (while wrapped safely in the warm cocoon of the local Cineplex), its also very often a cerebral one. What could be more thought-provoking than the very reminder that were not as invincible as we often go through our lives pretending to be? Luckily for us, weve had a wealth of ambitious filmmakers tackle a variety of doomsday scenarios in inventive (and sometimes gut-bustingly hilarious) ways. Will any of their movies lead to humankind changing its destructive tendencies? Doubtful. Listen, the apocalypse is bound to go down eventually, maybe in your lifetime. To prepare yourself, check out my list of the Top Ten Doomsday Horror Films ever made. Armageddon aint gonna be as much fun in real life as it is in the movies, but taking in a few of these picks might help ease the transition. Read Article

Neil Marshall in Talks to Direct Predators?

Friday, June 12, 2009 7:28 AM | From Film Junk
Well, I just got a whole lot more interested in this Predators sequel/reboot/whatever the heck it is. When we heard yesterday's announcement that Marcus Nispel would be taking on Conan [1], I was a little disappointed that Neil Marshall didn't get the gig, since he had been on the short list [2] of names that were previously being considered. Fortunately, it looks like Marshall is already deep in negotiations for another project that is even more well-suited to his abilities. According to Bloody Disgusting [3], Marshall is closing in on a deal to direct the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators! 20th Century Fox seems to be moving forward pretty quickly with this project, and although I have had my doubts up to this point, the involvement of the same guy who directed Dog Soldiers, The Descent and Doomsday should be a match made in heaven (or hell, depending on your point of view). I know some people didn't like Doomsday all that much, but I think a lot of the detractors just didn't quite grasp what Marshall was going for. In my opinion he's one of the few directors out there who can do Predators justice. Let's just hope this actually gets finalized relatively soon. Are you excited about Neil Marshall possibly directing Predators? Green Lantern: First Flight Trailer

Thursday, April 9, 2009 4:56 PM | From Film Junk
As we all know, the live action Green Lantern movie is still at least year or two away, but in the meantime Warner Brothers is hoping to get your money for a new direct-to-DVD animated feature starring the Emerald Crusader. Green Lantern: First Flight is the latest in the Warner Premiere series that also includes Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, Batman: Gotham Knight and Wonder Woman. I haven't been a huge fan of these animated features thus far, but I do think the Warner ones do have a slight edge over the Marvel ones from what I've seen. Green Lantern: First Flight is directed by Lauren Montgomery (Wonder Woman, Superman: Doomsday), and features the voices of Christopher Meloni, Tricia Helfer, Michael Madsen and John Larroquette. Look for it in stores on July 21st. Check out the trailer below. Read Article

Smallville Legion Mid-Season Return = Weak

Friday, January 16, 2009 12:21 AM | From Screen Rant
Bummer. After a promising first half of Smallville's 8th season, including a pretty good cliffhanger that teased us with a Doomsday showdown, the January premiere was a huge letdown. It wasn't just that we STILL haven't gotten the Doomsday/Clark Kent battle (maybe next week?), it was that the episode seemed to have dropped in quality back to [...] Read Article
