The Resident Evil franchise has been the most successful video game film series as of now. While many feel the films lack a certain quality the comic book films have, they still do very well with audiences. The films have been increasing their box office numbers with each film. I feel the success is due to the developing fanbase with the games, which are released on a regular basis. Along with the rabid DVD/Blu Ray market for the series. My personal opinion is that while I didn't find the sequels very impressive I do like the world Anderson has created. Hopefully with Anderson back directing it will bring new life and talent to the franchise in the future.
Resident Evil: $103.2 Million (Budget $35Mill) Resident Evil 2: $129Million (Budget $50Mill) Resident Evil 3: $146.1Million (Budget $45Million) DVD Sales: $50+ Million
Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the best film in the series is back to helm Resident Evil: Afterlife. I'd hope they would hire someone like Christian Alvart (Antibodies) who did an amazing job with Pandorum to take over, if Anderson doesn't return. While the budget hasn't been revealed it's been quoted as the most expensive film of the series mostly due the inclusion of the 3D cameras. I expect the more money they put into the production the more they'll get back in profits. The one issue I've had with the films is the cheap looking computer effects. While it wasn't as noticeable in the first film the sequels had their problems. Hopefully they will up the special effects budget or at least go practical when possible. Resident Evil: Begins the working title of the fifth film will be a reboot of sorts but also a sequel. Afterlife will include a new story arc to carry on a new trilogy. It's well known that Milla Jovovich's Alice will not be returning to the series. It's expected that new characters like Chris Redfied, Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine will carry on the series. There could also be an inclusion of fan favorites like Leon S. Kennedy and other characters from the games in the new trilogy. Capcom had made the producers aware they wanted the films to include more characters and stories from the games.
Producer Jeremy Bolt spoke to ShockTillYouDrop about the future of the franchise during a set visit.
"Yes, we are hoping [we can get the new characters seen in Afterlife back], that would be a dream to have another three [films],"I'm glad [Paul] is talking like that. Either he'd have to direct them or we'll have to find directors on his level. It's tough. But I hope that we can make a few more and his creative brilliance is essential to that. Every time we do it so if it is the last one we're very proud of it, but if it does well enough obviously we'll do another one."

New Pics From Boondock and Centurian!
Monday, October 5, 2009 2:35 PM | From Latino Review
Both of these films have back stories, while one is just a mystery the actual plot deals with and the other lives on in college dorm rooms where young men are still obsessed with Tarantino/Woo violence.First up, Centurion, the new flick from Neil Marshall, the director of Descent and Doomsday. The plot of Centurion deal with the "lost" Ninth Legion of Caesars Roman Army. Though the historical truth of the Ninth Legion is somewhat vague from historical writings and architectural markings, but the period this film concerns itself is after the "disappearance" of the Ninth Legion around 117 AD. When Marcus Aurelius made a list of all active Legions somewhere between 161-180, the Ninth was not included.Centurion supposes that the Ninth were stationed north of Hadrian's Wall, a Roman border built across England. The film is structured more like a western, with the Legion battling the barbaric Pics and trying to get out of Pic country.Centurion stars Michael Fassbender and Wire-vet Dominic West. Click the pic of Fassbender and Liam Cunningham below to see more from Empire, or you could wait until next August when the film is released, but why wait?
Also part of Monday's pic-a-palooza is the new poster from Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day, the sequel to Troy Duffy's 1999 cult hit. If you haven't heard of Boondock Saints, you're in the majority, but the less-violent majority. It's not that Boondock Saints isn't a good film, it just makes a lot of freshman mistakes and was out-dated in its style when it came out in a post-Matrix world.
Duffy's been spinning his wheels on a sequel and finally got traction, adding Clifton Collins Jr and Dexter's Julie Bentz to returning players Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Billy Connolly and David Della Rocco. The sequel will see the brothers return to Boston to avenge a murdered priest.
Click on the brand spankin' new poster to be taken to MTV and see some stills. Including one that spoils a Kim Cattrell cameo...which makes me confused.

Mark Strong & Thomas Haden Church Join John Carter of Mars
Heat Vision has announced three more actors who will be joining the cast of Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars. First off, they confirm that Thomas Haden Church, who already previously revealed that he was in this, is officially on-board. He will play Tal Hajus, an ambitious and vicious Thark warrior who is biding his time to be a ruler. Additionally, it was announced that British actors James Purefoy and Mark Strong are also joining the project. Purefoy plays Kantos Kan, the captain of the Xavarian, the kingdom of Heliums grand warship. Strong is Matai Shang, the ruler of the Thems with godlike status.
Stanton has rounded up one hell of a cast for this, that's for sure. Leading the way are young actors Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins; additionally on-board are Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, and Polly Walker. Most probably know I've been a huge supporter of ...

The 30th anniversary of FANGORIA magazine will be honored at a special panel to be held at the 42nd edition of Spains prestigious Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, to be held October 1-12. Longtime Fango editor Tony Timpone will be attending, joined by British correspondents Alan Jones, Calum Waddell and Axelle Carolyn, as well as Italian correspondent Roberto DOnofrio. The Fango salute will take place on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. in the Tramuntana Room at the Meliá Hotel.
For the last 30 years, FANGORIA has been the cornerstone of the Sitges programs diet, says festival director Angel Sala, the number-one source of information to feed the bowels of the beast. Fango has been the written witness of the horror scene around the world for over three decades. Sitges can only bow and pay due respect with a celebration for the fans.
The panel will be a friendly gathering with journalists and fans of the magazine to celebrate the 30 years of Fango, adds Michael Hostench, Sitges Subdirector.
Timpone will also take the stage for the world premiere of NIGHTMARES IN RED, WHITE AND BLUE: THE EVOLUTION OF THE AMERICAN HORROR FILM, a new genre documentary in which he appears. Well over 100 new and old genre films will play Sitges (see partial list below), from a 30th-anniversary revival of ALIEN to the new horror/comedy ZOMBIELAND. The fest opens with the equally eagerly awaited [REC] 2 and closes with the postapocalyptic drama THE ROAD. Besides the directors from most of the featured films being on hand, actors like NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREETs John Saxon, HALLOWEENs Malcolm McDowell and Spanish scream star Paul Naschy will also be feted. Mars Gains Three New Inhabitants
Monday, August 24, 2009 11:14 AM | From Latino Review
Looks like there's more life on Mars. Three English actors have just joined the cast of John Carter of Mars, Disney's film adaptation of the pulp sci-fi book series by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
With Andrew Stanton signed on to direct, and filming set to begin in Utah early next year, John Carter of Mars welcomes Samantha Morton (Elizabeth: The Goldon Age), Dominic West (300), and Polly Walker (Emma) to a cast already consisting of Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man).
Kitsch will play the part of John Carter, the Virginian and Civil War veteran who one day finds himself on Mars where he encounters friends and foes in the shape of Tars Tarkas (Dafoe), Dejah Thoris (Collins), Sola (Morton), Sab Than (West), and Sarkoja (Walker).
Burroughs' book series, more commonly known as the Barsoom series, consists of 11 volumes detailing life and power struggles on the planet Mars, which the natives dub "Barsoom." Disney hopes that if John Carter of Mars is successful, it will kick off a whole new flagship for them.

John Carter of Mars Adds Three
Monday, August 24, 2009 9:21 AM | From Screen Rant
The cast of Disney’s big-screen adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars keeps on growing, adding three English (read: talented) actors to the roster. Joining John Carter of Mars will be Dominic West (The Wire, 300), Samantha Morton (In America) and Polly Walker (HBO’s Rome).
The three English actors join Willem DaFoe, (supposedly) Thomas [...]
