Finally, one of the latest Hollywood trends is something I’m into. I’ve explored the recurrent vampire crazes and torture porn and westerns and musicals, gotten what I could out of those. The one I’m really into is the post-apocalyptic survival. I could watch my favorite stars gather supplies all day long.
Review: The Road
The Road has some beautiful wreckage along the way, striking shots of burnt out forests and some boats beached on a highway! You can definitely tell the world has been spent when these folks are slugging along.
The supplies are not as plentiful as perhaps in movies like I Am Legend where he still had half of New York to go through, or Dawn of the Dead where they had a whole shopping mall. Yet the little treasures are delightful. By the time they get a new cart, awww man, that’s the stuff.

Sunday, November 15, 2009 10:52 AM | From Screen Rant
After watching the first few episodes of the 2nd season of Sanctuary, we all started to wonder if Ashley was dead, as in “dead dead”, or dead as in, “for dramatic ratings and she’ll be back dead.”
Yet the clues were obvious – even before our confirmation.
Though they drew out Ashley’s (Emilie Ullerup) death out for [...]

Free Flick of the Day: Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Thursday, October 29, 2009 7:14 AM | From Cinematical
In keeping with the evil spirit of the season, allow me to commit a little blasphemy: I enjoyed the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead more than George Romero's original, which I've always felt was pretty clumsy with its social commentary. The remake has nothing on its mind other than gore, laughs, and thrills, and it delivers them in buckets.
That's why I've chosen it as the Free Flick of the Day at SlashControl. 'Tis the season, you know. Sarah Polley and Ving Rhames star as a couple of the suburbanites holed up in a shopping mall as zombies take over the city. These are the speedy zombies of the 21st century, you'll recall, not the lumbering, cow-like creatures of yesteryear. While I agree with the logical argument that you wouldn't be light on your feet if you'd just crawled out of a grave, fast zombies are a lot scarier. I'm just sayin'.
The film has a wicked sense of humor, too. I love the scene of zombie-hunting set to a cheesy lounge-singer version of "Down with the Sickness," and the way the bored refugees kill time by picking off zombies that look like celebrities. If you've got 100 minutes to kill, why not head over to SlashControl and enjoy some late-October mayhem and carnage?

Threadless has done it again, this time with a zombie themed t-shirt by Aled Lewis. Titled "The Horde", the t-shirt shows the last stand of one living human surrounded by an epic giant horde of zombies. The artist explains his inspirations for the design:
"This design is an homage to a bunch of different zombie related influences: Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of The Dead, The Evil Dead, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil and MJ's Thriller to name a few. I imagine this guy is probably making a last stand as a distraction whilst his friends get to the chopper."
The tshirt even features a cool little easter egg: a zombie Michael Jackson (as seen in the music video "Thriller") hidden in the undead horde. Photo after the jump.

The Monroeville Zombie Walk of 2009 and Coinciding Monroeville Zombies Museum
A video has popped up documenting the recent Monroeville Zombie Walk, an annual event celebrating the Pittsburgh town's ties to George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, the director's classic cinematic ode equating mall culture to the undead. This year also saw a Monroeville citizen, one with a very personal connection to Romero's original Night of the Living Dead, opening a zombie museum inside that very mall. Rather awesomely, it includes "a coffin, rigged with speakers and hydraulics, to experience a ride to a cemetery and burial" that can be experienced for a decaying three bucks U.S. Progress. The video contains a chat with the museum's curator, as well as lots of decaying mall goers, and is posted below...
As seen above, the museum's "Maul of Fame" was christened with the bloodied hands of actor Ken Foree, who starred in Dawn and memorably got iced by Michael Myers in Rob Zombie's Halloween ...
