SXSW: The Snake

Saturday, March 14, 2009 11:07 PM | From Cinema Blend
Austin's South By Southwest film festival is the perfect venue for a movie like The Snake, a film which proudly belongs to a delightfully despicable group of movies like Choke or The Foot Fist Way. These are movies which can only be properly appreciated if you're in possession of a sick, twisted, demented, completely fucking amoral sense of humor. Hey, I have that! So do most of you, even if you don't want to admit it. For those of you ... Read Article

Insert Caption: Choke

Friday, February 20, 2009 5:28 PM | From Cinematical
Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game that chews its food slowly so it doesn't accidentally choke. Last week we asked you to sweeten us up with a caption for a photo from the new movie Two Lovers -- and since it was Valentine's Day, you all wore the most adorable little captions. Congrats to our three winners for romancing us with their subtle humor.

1. "Man, my face is so freaking cold out here! Maybe I should grow a beard." -- Jonathan K.

2. "I'm sorry, but there is a third lover" -- Brad S.

3. "I'm standing here telling you I love you, telling you everything I've been feeling, opening up to you and risking everything else in my entire life ... and all you can do is stand there and say 'Bye! Good'. What does that even mean?" -- Don S.

This week we're stopping in for a little DVD love with an image from Choke, starring Sam Rockwell and based on the very awesome book from Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club), about a struggling sex addict who chokes on purpose in restaurants in an attempt to feed off the sympathy (and wallets) of those around him. The folks behind our three favorite captions this week will walk away with one Choke DVD and one Choke poster. Sound off below ...

This Week on DVD: Choke, Changeling, Religulous

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 10:07 AM | From Film Junk
There are a lot of middle-of-the-road DVD releases this week along with some crap, but if you wade through the complete list of titles, odds are you'll find something that you're interested in. Ridley Scott's Body of Lies is out today, along with Clint Eastwood's Changeling, REC remake Quarantine, and the Simon Pegg comedy How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. Movies that a lot of people didn't get a chance to see in theatres include Clark Gregg's adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's Choke, the controversial Dakota Fanning movie Hounddog, and Ryűhei Kitamura's The Midnight Meat Train. Dead Like Me fans will be excited about the direct-to-DVD movie Life After Death, and also going head to head this week are the ... Read Article

CHOKE DVD Review -- Brett says Choke is a fantastic movie that is definitely not for everyone

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 11:14 AM | From Collider
Choke is a fantastic movie- at least in my opinion. Before I continue, I must preface this review with a disclaimer: this movie is NOT for everybody. Being a fan of indie films myself, I couldnt wait to finally catch this film after seeing a teaser trailer this past summer. Add in one of the worlds most versatile actors in Sam Rockwell, and you certainly have a recipe for success. Choke, based on the Chuck Palahniuk novel, stars Rockwell as Victor, an absolute low-life human being, who is self-admittedly addicted to sex; doesnt matter how or where he gets it, Victor lives for one purpose- to hunt for pleasure. To spice things up, he attends Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings every week where he finds his tramp-of-the-week. If you arent already amused by this fascinating picture, I suggest you hit the back button on your browser. If ... Read Article

Chuck Palahniuk Interview

Wednesday, November 19, 2008 8:14 AM | From IGN Movies
Choke is the subversive tale of Victor Mancini, a sex-addicted con artist who spends his days taking part in re-enactments at a fake colonial village and his evenings pretending to choke in restaurants in an effort to bask in the comfort of strangers. The film, which hits UK screens on Friday, is based on the book by Chuck Palahniuk, and is his first work to be adapted for the screen since 1999's Fight Club. IGN caught up with the author to discuss the gestation of the project, the importance of Radiohead to both book and film, and the reason why Marilyn Monroe is the female Christ. Just beware of a major (and well sign-posted) plots spoiler mid-way through. Read Article
