Goyer says Ghost Rider 2 not a reboot.

Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:48 AM | From MovieJungle

For those wondering whether the screenplay for the next "Ghost Rider" (now moving from an R rating to a PG-13 rating) would somehow reboot the franchise, MTV News asked Goyer the same question. He said "It's not exactly a reboot. I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'"

According to Goyer, the sequel is planning to start filming next year. He also said that Nicolas Cage is still attached to play the role of Johnny Blaze.

The first film clocked in a big $228 million in worldwide sales.

"This story picks up eight years after the first film," said Goyer. "You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place."

Alex Gibney and George Hickenlooper Fighting Over Casino Jack Abramoff

Friday, November 13, 2009 2:32 PM | From /Film
For once it isn't M. Night Shyamalan getting stuck into a bitter dispute over a film's title (see The Woods/The Village and the Avatars) but some fresh meat. The combatants this time are documentarian Alex Gibney and sometime documentarian, sometime fiction filmmaker George Hickenlooper. At this moment, they're both at work with films about the disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff - Gibney a doc, Hickenlooper a drama set to star Kevin Spacey - and both of the films are claiming the title Casino Jack. A cease and desist letter has been sent to Hickenlooper from the legal representatives of Gibney, threatening "any and all necessary action" if Casino Jack the second doesn't budge over and find a new handle. What could "any and all necessary action" actually amount to? Some excerpts from the letter and from Hickenlooper's stinging response coming right up after the break. Why should it matter if there's two films with ... Read Article

Mel Gibson Is Back: Trailer For Edge of Darkness Debuts

Thursday, October 15, 2009 1:42 PM | From Film Junk
Well you had better decide if you're hanging on the cross, or banging in the nails... Fuck yeah. Mel Gibson is back. The trailer for Edge of Darkness, his first film since 2003's The Singing Detective, has debuted online - and it's looking awesome. The trailer both shows intense action and the workings of a great plot, which isn't surprising seeing as the movie is based on an excellent BBC miniseries from 1985 that the film's director (Casino Royale-director Martin Campbell) actually directed himself back in the day. So get ready for an engaging thriller with Gibson back in action. This is going to be intense. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Edge of Darkness Movie Trailer and Poster

Thursday, October 15, 2009 7:07 AM | From /Film
Warner Bros. has released the trailer for Edge of Darkness, featuring Mel Gibson's first starring role since 2002. Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale) directs the movie, which is a remake of the very highly regarded UK mini-series from 1985 that Campbell also directed. Sadly, the trailer mostly looks like a routine potboiler, but it has a few moments that shine through. Check it out after the break. Originally Robert De Niro was cast as the character now played by Ray Winstone, so my first viewing of this trailer was all about reconciling how I'd once imagined De Niro working that role in comparison to Winstone's work. I like Winstone a lot, and he gets a couple of my favorite moments in this clip. And, really, things are going pretty well in this trailer as it sets up the story of Gibson's murdered daughter, a possible conspiracy and presents what looks like an ... Read Article

Monday, October 5, 2009 11:14 AM | From Film Junk
The good folks over at Empire [1] managed to score some new stills last week from the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans, which is being directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Transporter 2). As you can see in the pictures, they're really going all out with the costume design courtesy of Lindy Hemming (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Dark Knight, Casino Royale). Most of the pics feature Sam Worthington as Perseus, but we've also got our first look at Liam Neeson as Zeus thanks to an on-set snapshot from Entertainment Weekly [2]. Now that's what I call armor! What do you say, is this shaping up to be the epic blockbuster that you were expecting? Clash of the Titans hits theatres on March 26th, 2010. Eva Green and Ewan McGregor in an Apocalyptic Romance

Friday, September 11, 2009 4:07 PM | From FirstShowing.net
French actress Eva Green was given quite the shove into stardom when the landed the role as Bond girl Vesper Lynd alongside Daniel Craig's James Bond in 2006's Casino Royale. ScreenDaily reports now Green is starring alongside another top notch British actor in David Mackenzie's tentatively titled new film Last Word, also starring Ewan McGregor.  Danish screenwriter Kim Fupz Aakeson wrote the script which tells the story of two people who fall in love as the world around them crumbles.  Shooting is currently under way in England already and features a whole slew of other acclaimed international actors rounding out the cast. Ewen Bremmer, who starred with McGregor in 1996's Trainspotting, is also featured along with acclaimed British actor Stephen Dillane (Thomas Jefferson in HBO's John Adams) and Danish actress Connie Nielsen (Gladiator).  A very eclectic cast should make this a project to keep an eye on, but my curiosity is ...
