Chris Pine to star in Ben Afflecks adaptation of THE BLADE ITSELF

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 2:24 PM | From GeekTyrant

It’s been almost two-years since it was announced that Ben Affleck and his writing and producing partner Sean Bailey had acquired rights to adapt Marcus Sakeys crime novel, The Blade Itself. The purchase came off the heels of Affleck’s critically acclaimed directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone. We haven’t seen or heard much from the project, but we do [...] Read Article

Chris Pine Still Attached to Ben Affleck Scripted The Blade Itself?

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 9:39 AM | From FirstShowing.net
Chris Pine has been all over the trades after his breakthrough performance in Star Trek with has name being mentioned along with several different projects over the past few months. Now we're getting wind of a project that Pine apparently joined just days before Star Trek even hit theaters as Pajiba says that he is attached to the Ben Affleck scripted crime-drama The Blade Itself based on Marcus Sakey's novel of the same name. Aaron Stockard co-wrote the screenplay with Affleck after first writing the script for the actor's directorial debut Gone Baby Gone back in 2007, but apparently it's not in the cards for Affleck to direct. Though development has been quiet, Pajiba's inside source says that directors like Steve Zailian and Sam Raimi have been approached to direct, but to no avail. Now the plan is to have the top contender for the job meet with Pine before a helmer ... Scenes We Love: Blade

Friday, October 16, 2009 3:42 PM | From Cinematical

It might seem to be strange to love a scene in a movie that frankly you are not all that attached to. But for today's Scenes We Love, I decided to pick one of my 'bittersweet favorites': the opening from Blade. Now why is it bittersweet? Well, because as much as I love this scene, when it comes to the rest of the movie, I kind of felt like it was all downhill from here. This is just my personal taste, but Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) was never all that scary as the bad guy in the story, and, well, that chick kind of got on my nerves (hey, just my two cents!). But, I'm going to stand by the fact that despite a heck of an opening, the rest of the movie never quite lived up to this set up. I guess that's the problem with a great entrance -- it isn't easy to keep up the pace.

But this is called Scenes We Love after all, so let's not dwell on the negative. Because as opening scenes go, this one is a winner, with a pumping soundtrack, some pretty cool fighting moves, and last but not least -- the chance to see Traci Lords explode into a pile of ember and ash.

After the jump: Blade fun facts, and the number one reason you should never go to a rave in a slaughterhouse...

Versus Films that will Never Happen

Monday, October 12, 2009 12:42 PM | From The Movie Blog
I tripped over an article this weekend that showed a trailer mashup editing bits of Batman with the Blade film making it look like it would be a Batman Vs Blade film. Clearly something that would never happen since Batman is DC and Blade is Marvel but it actually made me curious as to how such [...] Read Article

Sling Blade on Blu-Ray

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 2:35 PM | From CanMag.Com
I was wondering how Sling Blade would look on Blu Ray, being an older indie film, probably not shot or preserved on the best stock. It holds up well. At least it looks like the best version of the movie, if not some mind blowing restoration.

On Blu-Ray: Sling Blade
The picture is sharp, presenting the filmic aesthetic of the south, if tightened up from the version I saw at a local arthouse in 1997 (after the nominations). I wouldn’t say it looks like you’re there, and there may be a few shots that fuzz up, but most of it is totally sharp. Read Article

David Goyer Talks Blade 4

Monday, August 17, 2009 6:28 PM | From Screen Rant
Just over a month ago we talked about the future of the Blade franchise and at the time, it seemed that Stephen Dorff may help guide the series in a different direction with a trilogy of new movies set before the events of the first Blade. It of course would star Dorff as the bad-ass vampire, [...] Read Article

NOT Available on DVD: Two on a Guillotine

Wednesday, July 29, 2009 7:14 AM | From We Are Movie Geeks

twoonaguillotine

The guillotine was a device developed during the French Revolution and was used in carrying out thousands of executions. It consisted of an upright frame from which a sharp blade is suspended. The blade is raised with a rope and then allowed to drop, quickly severing the victim’s head from their body. In 1964, the Aurora plastics company, famous for their series of best-selling monster model kits, produced a 1/12th scale model of an actual working guillotine complete with a little victim whose head could be lopped off with the flick of a switch. Though tame compared with some items…
