Three New Actors Saddle Up For Secretariat

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 7:49 AM | From Latino Review
I hate horse racing, mostly because I love horses and hate how a career-ending injury is often times a life-ending injury for them. But still, I admit that movies based around horse racing can have a certain charm to them, especially when the film is about winning the elusive Triple Crown. With Randall Wallace (The Man in the Iron Mask) on board to direct, the upcoming Disney film Secretariat will be such a story, following the titular horse that won the Triple Crown back in 1973. And yesterday The Hollywood Reporter announced that three new stars were entering the film's stable: Dylan Walsh (The Stepfather), John Malkovich (Burn After Reading), and Scott Glen (W.). While Diane Lane (Hollywoodland) has been signed to appear as the horse's owner, Penny Tweedy, for quite some time, Walsh will be joining the cast as her character's husband, while Malkovich will play a "charismatic trainer who underestimates the power of Secretariat." As for Glenn, it's hard to tell how much he'll appear in the film as his character is only described as the aristocrat who lost the horse to Tweedy during a coin toss. And considering that Secretariat is scheduled to start shooting this week, around the same time that Glenn is getting ready to shoot his scenes for Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, I'd say this his aristocrat character doesn't show up for long. Secretariat will be shooting in Lousiana and Kentucky.   Source: The Hollywood Reporter Read Article

John Malkovich Jumps Onto Secreteriat

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 9:35 AM | From /Film
Sadly, this isn't about a sequel to the 2002 film Secretary. John Malkovich is joining Secretariat, the film directed by Braveheart writer Randall Wallace, about three people whose lives intersected, thanks to the champion horse Secretariat. (One of three horses to win the Triple Crown of the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Preakness Stakes.) If Seabiscuit didn't have the horseracing moxie you wanted, check out more details on this champ, after the break. Variety reports that Malkovich will play Lucien Laurin, the former horse jockey who became Secretariat's trainer. (Isn't he a little tall for an ex-horse jockey?)  Diane Lane has already been announced as Penny Tweedy, owner of Meadow Farm, a horse breeding business in Virginia that was founded by her father Christopher. THR reports that Dylan Walsh has also come aboard as Tweedy's husband, an attorney who wants his wife waiting for him at home. Finally, Scott Glenn will ... Read Article

John Malkovich Helping Diane Lane Run The Triple Crown

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 7:29 AM | From Cinema Blend
Secretariat seems like it's going to be Diane Lane's show, with the actress playing the owner of the famous horse, who broke horse racing's gender barrier and led Secretariat to win the 1973 Triple Crown. But no great actress can be great all on her own (or just with a horse), so a trio of menfolk have signed on to join her in the film. According to THR, John Malkovich, Dylan Walsh, and Scott Glenn have all joined the cast. Walsh ... Read Article

John Malkovich has joined the cast of horse drama Secretariat.

He's signed on to play Lucien Laurin the ex-jockey who ended up training the 1973 US Triple Crown-nabbing racehorse.

Randall Wallace has written the script and will direct the film, which focuses on the bond between the four-legged friend and his owner, Penny Chenery (Diane Lane), a housewife who knew almost nothing about the sport when she took over her father's horse farm.

John Malkovich for Secretariat
Directed by Randall Wallace, Secretariat will have Malkovich play Lucien Laurin, the former jockey who became the trainer of the 1973 Triple Crown-winning racehorse. Three ride Secretariat

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 12:35 AM | From Joblo.Com
I'd usually try to slip in a few "Seabiscuit 2: Electric Boogaloo" jokes at another underdog race horse real-life movie, but this one just got itself Malkovich and John Glenn, and you just don't mess around with those guys. Or the bunny gets it. Both actors along with Dylan Walsh are joining the ever-gorgeous Diane Lane in SECRETARIAT, about a housewife who breaks into the male-dominated "sport" when she... Read More...
