Inexpilcable American Gladiators Movie Gets A Writer

Friday, November 20, 2009 8:12 AM | From Cinema Blend
It remains a mystery how the ultimate cheeseball game show American Gladiators will be turned into a movie, but screenwriter Peter Iliff apparently has an answer for us. According to Variety he's been hired to write the bigscreen American Gladiators movie, which will feature all those old familiar characters like Turbo and Blaze, but turn them into superheroes. Because, obviously, inventing new superheroes out of meathead TV competitors is a good idea. I love American Gladiators as much as the ... Read Article

Clooney’s taking aim…at our excitement.

Okay, as lame as that may have been, there’s not denying how cool this first shot is from George Clooney’s upcoming film, THE AMERICAN.  It comes to us today courtesy of Collider, who had a man out at the American Film Market last week to snag up images just like this one.

In the film, Clooney plays a skilled assassin.  After a botched job, a lover ends up dead, and the assassin vows that his next job will be his last.  It could very well be just that, as he finds himself letting his guard down.

Vertigo Readying New Comic Series American Vampire

Monday, October 26, 2009 12:07 PM | From Dread Central

Now here's something we just don't have enough of: Vampires! I know ... truth be told, we're all about to o.d. on bloodsucker tales, but here's one that you should keep an eye out for: Vertigo Comics' American Vampire from writers Scott Snyder and Stephen King and artist Rafael Albuquerque.

Launching in March, 2010, Vertigo's American Vampire will introduce readers to a new breed of vampire a more muscular and vicious species of vampire with distinctly American characteristics. The series first story arc, to be told over the course of five issues, will feature two different stories, one written by Snyder, the other by King.

Snyders storyline is one of decadence and deception and Jazz Age glamour. Pearl is an ambitious modern woman with starlet dreams. She frequents Hollywoods speakeasies and dance-halls searching for her first big break, only to find something far more sinister waiting for her. Kings story provides the origin of the very first American vampire: Skinner Sweet, a bank robbing, murdering cowboy of the 1880s. Skinner is stronger and faster than previous vampires; he has rattlesnake fangs and is powered by ... the sun? Following the conclusion of the first story arc, Snyder and Albuquerque will trace Skinners bloodline through various decades of American history.

"Getting the chance to re-imagine a classic monster - to invent a whole new mythology and secret history - nothing could be more exciting for me ... except getting the chance to do it with Stephen King at Vertigo. This all a dream come true for me!" says Snyder.

"I love vampire stories, and the idea of following the dark exploits of a uniquely American vampire really lit up my imagination. The chance to do the origin story - to be "present at the creation" - was a thrill," adds King.

And Albuquerque chimes in, "In a time where vampires are everywhere, Scott and Stephen seem to have done the impossible: an original, inventive and detailed new series. Its a challenging and exciting project Im proud to be working on."

Check out some early artwork below, and look for American Vampire next spring.

Monday, October 26, 2009 8:21 AM | From Cinema Blend
Five years ago, there is no way you would have been able to tell January Jones and Diane Kruger apart just by looking at their photos. Jones had a big part in American Wedding, of course, and Kruger was the most beautiful woman in history in Troy, but come one. They're both unbelievably gorgeous blondes with blue eyes who, until recently, were more likely to play eye candy than characters with real substance. But in 2009, of course, Jones and Kruger ... American Son is an indie film that was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.  It was recently released on DVD.  Given the poor reception of most films about the Iraqi War at the box office, this was probably a smart move. In American Son, Nick Cannon plays Mike, a young Marine who is being sent [...] Read Article
