Weekly Poll Results: Favourite Jim Carrey Movie

Thursday, November 12, 2009 11:28 AM | From Film Junk
I think we all knew from the start what movie was going to win last week's poll, but still, I was kinda hoping for an upset. Don't get me wrong, I love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but I didn't want people to count out Carrey's early comedies either. I thought the subtle wording of the poll question ("favourite", not "best") would help. Ah well. The good news is, Dumb & Dumber managed to place second, and both Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask broke the top 5. Man on the Moon wasn't as high as I expected though... I guess people have cooled off on that flick. Don't you miss the days when Ace Ventura quotes were cool? "Alllllrighty then!" 1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind -- 28.2% 2. Dumb & Dumber -- 22.6% 3. The Truman Show -- 14.4% 4. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective -- 12.5% 5. The Mask -- 6.4% 6. The Cable Guy -- 6.1% 7. Liar Liar -- 4% 8. Man on the Moon -- 3.5% 9. Bruce Almighty -- 2.1% 10. How The Grinch Stole Christmas -- 0.3%

Christoph Waltz on Inglourious Basterds

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 2:35 PM | From CanMag.Com
You might wonder why we’re doing a story on some unknown German actor, but after you see Inglourious Basterds you’ll want to know more about Christoph Waltz. He plays Col. Hans Landa, nicknamed “The Jew Hunter,” the real enemy of the film’s heroes, if not the direct target of the Basterds themselves.

Inglourious Basterds Hunt Christoph Waltz
“What I tried to learn is what makes a detective,” Waltz said. “Why would someone want to be a detective? You learn that kind of quickly, not the craft of being a detective. Like with any other craft you would probably need a few decades to become a master detective, unless you're a genius. But so I found old books from the beginning of the 20th century about criminology. It was really interesting how far advanced they were in psychology and sussing out motivations and reasoning 100 years ago. I found that interesting. Whether I learned something from it that was valuable or not from the part, I don't know. It's hard to tell.”

The film opens with Landa investigating a farm house suspected of sheltering Jewish refugees. It is an extended dialogue that lasts more than the entire first reel, showing how Landa uses politeness and humor to manipulate his goals. Read Article
