Vin Diesel Quits XXX. The World Remains Silent

Sunday, October 18, 2009 11:49 AM | From Film Junk
After returning to the Fast & the Furious franchise it had looked like Vin Diesel was going back to the XXX franchise as well, but that has all changed.  An article on Cinefools.com says that Vinny has pulled out of XXX: The Return of Xander Cage.  I would think this will be very bad as it follows on the heels of original director Rob Cohen (The Fast & the Furious, XXX) pulling out as well and little known filmmaker Ericson Cole stepping in.  Details for Diesel's departure have not been released.  What does this mean for the XXX franchise?  I, personally, have seen XXX nor it's Ice Cube sequel.  I suppose they could go ahead with another actor.  What do you think?  Should they bother and would it make any money anyway?

Friday, September 25, 2009 8:50 AM | From The Moving Picture
Theres been talk of a Highlander reboot for several years, and now it looks like one is actually happening as Summit Entertainment has signed Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) to helm a new film in the franchise that originally starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. The trades say Summit plans to expand on the original "Highlander" premise of immortals hunting each other through the ages. The new film will center on the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, who must confront a murderous barbarian who lusts for a fabled prize. The original 1986 film was directed by Russell Mulcahy and along with Lambert and Connery starred Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart. It launched four sequels and three TV spin-offs. The last big screen outing for the series was 2000s Highlander: Endgame. Neal H. Moritz, who worked with Lin on Fast & Furious, will produce. Longtime Highlander producer Peter Davis is also producing along with Moritz. Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Hollaway will write the screenplay. Summit hasnt set a start date for production but hopes to turn the movie into an action tentpole. Read Article

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 9:49 AM | From Joblo.Com
This week it was announced that FAST AND FURIOUS director Justin Lin is remaking rebooting re-imagining HIGHLANDER, much to almost everyone's dismay. Even with the IRON MAN screenwriting duo on his back (Art Marcum and Matt Holoway), the project doesn't seem like that great of an idea. But what can save it? Why, a great cast of course. And no one is more important to the film the the Highlander himself, Connor... Read More... Read Article

Fast & Furious Director To Remake Highlander

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 2:35 PM | From /Film
Summit Entertainment has announced that Justin Lin will direct a re-imagination (ie reboot) of Highlander. Of course, Summit hopes that this reboot with "spur a new franchise for the studio." Lin made his name with the awesome High School-based indie crime drama Better Luck Tomorrow in 2002 (if you haven't seen it, add it to your netflix queue), but has since turned out mostly generic Hollywood crap like Annapolis, Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast & Furious. The good news is that Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are working on the new take, which will expand on Highlander's original core mythology of immortals battling amongst us, hunting each other through the ages by tapping its newly minted creative team to take its re-imagination to new heights.
