Yesterday we told you that JJ Abrams was producing another top-secret Cloverfield-sized film titled 500 Rads. In a post-Cloverfield/Star Trek world, JJ Abrams is working on a lot of different projects -- not 24 hours later do we find out that the screenwriter turned filmmaker/producer is in talks to produce a movie adaptation of Micronauts. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Abrams is in discussions to bring the Japanese interchangeable toys to the big screen, with the help of Hasbro, who just acquired the property.
First released in Japan in 1974, the toys were later imported to the U.S. in 1976. The line consisted of 3.75-inch tall action figures, vehicles, robots, play sets, and accessories which used a universal, five millimeter inter-connective design. It should also be mentioned that a series of Micronauts comic books were published by Marvel Comics and Image Comics. The original series was written by Bill ...
This morning I woke up to a gaggle of emails from readers who have found a new video that is being billed as a new viral video for Cloverfield 2. The last video you will recall was debunked as a fan video. Checkout the new video below and decide for yourself. Is it an avid fan or is this truly the first viral video for Cloverfield 2?
2nd Viral for Cloverfield 2?
Monday, September 14, 2009 2:35 AM | From Dread Central
Around three weeks or show we showed you what could very well have been the first viral video for Cloverfield 2. Fake or not, everyone was pretty much in agreement that it was pretty badass, if not a little too much on the nose. How would the second video fare? Find out now!
Though not as cool as the first one that you can watch by clicking the above link, this latest one still retains that "Holy shit! Something really bad has either just happened or is going to happen!" feeling. As a giant monster movie buff this really gets to me on such a good level. So now more waiting. Feast your eyes and tell us what you think below. Come back Clovie! We've missed ya!
Last week's Film Junk poll stretched beyond movies and into their marketing, and we asked you to choose the movie that had the best viral campaign to date. Coming out on top was Cloverfield, followed closely by The Blair Witch Project -- two movies where the marketing played an obvious and essential role in their success. The Dark Knight and District 9 also received quite a few votes, while the rest of the choices were clumped together near the bottom of the pile. I'm a bit surprised Watchmen didn't get more recognition, but perhaps all the comic book fans voted for The Dark Knight. Do you agree with these results?
1. Cloverfield -- 27.7%
2. The Blair Witch Project -- 25.8%
3. The Dark Knight -- 15.4%
4. District 9 -- 14.8%
5. Borat -- 4.9%
6. Snakes on a Plane -- 4.6%
7. Funny People -- 2.5%
8. Watchmen -- 1.5%
8. Tropic Thunder -- 1.5%
10. Transformers -- 1.2%
I've been known to post random articles with cool content that is somehow related to Cloverfield (like this one). While this chart I'm featuring today does include Cloverfield, that's not the only monster on it. Our friends at GeekTyrant found a great chart comparing some 11 notable movie monsters and their sizes. It starts with Chucky from Child's Play, believe it or not, and also includes the Wicked Witch of the West, Tyrannosaurus Rex, King Kong, the Rancor from Star Wars, Megatron, the 50 Foot Woman, Mr. Stay Puft from Ghostbusters, the Tripods from War of the Worlds, Godzilla, and, of course, the Cloverfield monster.
You can actually buy this very design on a t-shirt, if you're so inclined (but it's only available in the UK via teepay). I dig it because it's so unconventional and they choose such an odd collection of monsters. Why not include the new snow monster ...

Three District 9 Images
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 12:56 AM | From Cinema Blend
Sony has released a couple of new images from District 9. No alien moneyshots. You do get half of an alien ship though, and one very, very dirty human who looks like he fell of the set of Cloverfield. District 9 may not have a giant, city-stomping monster but it certainly seems as though it's headed down the shaky-cammed Cloverfield path.
District 9 hits theaters August 14th, check out the pics:
