Eighty Letters Trailer (2011)

Trailer for Eighty Letters.

Eighty Letters is a beguilingly poetic evocation of Czechoslovakia in 1987 and autobiographically based. The source of the film is the memories of the director and the surviving correspondence between his parents. The father has defected to England and the mother and her son are planning to leave the country to be reunited with him. Painstakingly delicate production design and cinematography add to the film's sense of truth and purpose. Small wonder then that this soulful cinematic artistry--and the tender mother and son relationship--contrasts so very poignantly with the Kafkaesque world the family works to escape.
