Inspired by true events, director Jeppe Rønde’s award-winning drama focuses on a police inspector called to a small Welsh village to investigate a rash of teen suicides. Sara (Hannah Murray, "Gilly" on Game of Thrones), his teenage daughter, accompanies him and quickly finds fellowship amongst a clique of friends fascinated by—in an almost celebratory fashion—their peers’ suicidal success. This compelling account is as haunting as it is fascinating. Just what could be the cause of such a sudden macabre and tragic act? Rønde himself spent a lot of time conducting interviews with teens living in the area as an attempt to piece together just what motivated them to perform such a brash action. Eerie, intense, and provocative, Bridgend allows the viewer to try to make sense of it all, thus cementing the film’s power to remain with you well beyond its running time. Winner of three major awards at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival including Best Actress and Best Cinematography.
