Trailer for Bakal Boys, which screened at the 2009 Vancouver International Film Festival.

In Bakal Boys, a boy named Bungal goes missing, and his younger friend/protégé Utoy goes looking for him. Both boys are amongst the many kids from the Baseco squatter area who go diving in Manila Bay for bits and pieces of scrap metal--and who will sometimes steal scrap from the boatyards when they can’t find any in the water. For these boys, finding an abandoned anchor on the seabed is a big deal, worth teaming up to raise it to the surface. More often, though, there’s a fierce rivalry between them... and the scrap-metal dealer they sell to is more enemy than friend, always ready to cheat them.
