Vin Diesel: Paul Walker’s Mother Apologized To Me After His Death

On the day of November 30, 2013, everything changed in the life of Vin Diesel. His beloved friend and co-star had perished after enjoying 12 years together starting from 2001's The Fast and the Furious up until Fast & Furious 6.

With the emotion still raw having lost the 40-year old forever, Diesel recalled that Walker's mother Cheryl phoned him the day after the tragic car accident. But rather than console each other during this time, she surprisingly apologized. Speaking with SiriusXM Entertainment about this horrific time, Diesel said that she had the foresight to know what he was about to go through before the penny had actually dropped.

Vin: Cheryl Knew I Would Never Be Whole Again

Going back three-and-a-half years when the news was still lingering front of mind, Diesel was shocked that Cheryl Walker would even consider apologizing to him. As he went back to that December 1 call, he said that her instincts would be spot on.

“And I said, ‘Why?’” Diesel told the show. “Why are you apologising to me? And she says to me, ‘Because you lost your other half.’ She was telling me something that I wasn’t even aware of. I wasn’t aware of how profound the loss was. There wasn’t a day, there wasn’t a scene, there wasn’t a second where I didn’t have Paul with me in the making of this movie. It’s not making the movie without Paul, it’s, ‘What’s life like? What’s living like without Paul?’”

Such was the profound impact of their time together on the big screen to span five movies, he said that he named his daughter Pauline in his honor.

“My mother only told me this a month ago, that his mother told my mum, ‘Love your child. Just love your child’."
