Thor: Ragnarok Director To Play Planet Hulk Favorite Korg

Much like his directing compatriots Quentin Tarantino, Mel Brooks and Alfred Hitchcock, Taika Waititi is once again set to appear in his own movie. The 41-year old New Zealand native has catapulted his career into the big leagues courtesy of Thor: Ragnarok. But it was naturally expected that he would not step in front of the camera for such a major production.

Not the case. Waititi will do likewise from his history with What We Do in the Shadows and Eagle vs Shark to cameo in the role of Korg. The character offers a direct connection between the Planet Hulk comic book series and the MCU, showcasing a figure that will give Mark Ruffalo's superhero a run for his money.

Korg Is A Friendly Giant To Welcome Thor

Thor Ragnarok Korg

Entering Sakaar and at a seeming dead end, Thor will befriend Korg whose looks are somewhat deceiving. Working alongside the God of Thunder after being banished to the planet and forced against his will to be a gladiator. According to /FILM, Waititi will be tapping into his cultural roots for inspiration of the giant as he personified a friendly creature that is willing to assist Chris Hemsworth's character.

"In the film, Korg befriends Thor and welcomes the God of Thunder to the planet Sakaar, explaining how society on the planet operates. We were shown a scene featuring Thor's first meeting with Korg. While the Kronan looks physically intimidating, he is super helpful and overly friendly. Waititi's comic timing is brilliant, and if you've seen his roles in his previous films, then you have an idea of what to expect. Waititi explained that Korg is modeled after Polynesian nightclub bouncers who are the biggest people in town, but have the lightest and most delicate voices: 'They are very endearing, but you don't want to f*** with them.'"

Comic Relief Miek To Be A Sideshow To Main Event

Thor Ragnarok Planet Hulk

While it is quite something for the director to play a character in the movie, the part of Miek has been uncredited. He will be the other nod to Planet Hulk as future movies might be utilizing this source material down the track.

"Miek is an insect creature with a crab mouth and a black and red exoskeleton with knives for hands and bionic legs. The character does not talk in the film, but was played on-set by a performance capture actor. It seems like he might be the kind of sidekick character that will be doing some entertaining bits in the background as the characters with dialogue move the plot forward."

Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters November 3.
