Star Wars Land Theme Park From Disney To Open In 2019

Finally all those billions of dollars stored away at Disney are going to something other than another animation movie. And, this time, it is truly bold. It was announced this week that the mega studio company will be launching Star Wars Land as of 2019, a theme park that will give families an opportunity to experience a part of the fantasy world for themselves.

Split into two separate locations at Disneyland California and Walt Disney World Florida.

Read, the initial 2015 plans indicated that there would be 14 acres for both spots. Making them the biggest additions to each site in their history. The release of the opening date will coincide with the debut of Star Wars Episode IX, closing the chapter on the original run of the Luke Skywalker timeline.

Participants Can Be Their Own Han Solo

Whether it is inserting themselves into Jabba the Hutt's lair or stopping off for a quick drink at Chalmun's Cantina bar, the interactive experience will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane. That is, starting in 2019 and beyond.

“Nestled between towering spires of rock, this thriving port contains a seemingly familiar architecture of markets, landing zones and buildings,” said Disney in the official statement. “Look closely and you may find hints of some of the thrilling experiences that are coming – like the Millennium Falcon peeking out of one of the cargo bays, marking the location where guests will get the opportunity to pilot the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.”

Disney CEO Bob Iger gave a personal message for those keen to know more.

“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars. We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”

Avatar To Beat Star Wars To The Punch

For those fantasy buffs that cannot wait until 2019 to get their theme park fix, Pandora: The World of Avatar will be opening on May 27th. Where? Another Disney park actually, at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The immersive experience will provide much of the same as Star Wars Land, only the James Cameron creation will be complete with a wonderful jungle and exotic 3D creatures.

The park includes two rides. The Flight of Passage where guests can ride a Mountain Banshee. And the more PC family-friendly Na'vi River Journey. More additions will be expected as the filmmaker builds the film into a fully formed franchise.
