Spin Off Han Solo Flick Narrows Female Lead Search To 3

Lucasfilm will do well to differentiate the best lead between Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz and Naomi Scott. All brilliantly talented actresses who bring something different to the table. THR believes these are the three names on a short list for a yet-to-be-named Han Solo spin off project that is gathering pace and momentum.

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have reportedly looked at all three, as they came in to test for the role this week. And, while the release date of May 25, 2018 seems a way in the distance, the studio already has it's hands full dealing with Star Wars Episode VIII leading into 2017.

Thompson, Kravitz and Scott All A-Grade

Tessa Thompson for Han Solo Spin Off

Playing Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok is due reward for Tessa Thompson after her knockout performance in the boxing epic Creed. The actress successfully gave love interest Bianca real depth and nuance to what could have been a stereotypical female role. But the 33-year old has serious competition on her hands in the form of Kravitz and Scott.

27-year old Zoe Kravitz is a triple threat as a recording artist, model and actress. She also has plenty of big budget experience, something that could help her cause. She just has to pull out her filmography and point to Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men: First Class. Then there is the younger Naomi Scott. She has less runs on the board at 23, yet is hot property following on from her role in the upcoming Power Rangers production, where she plays Kimberly Hart.

Alden Ehrenreich Will Be Han Solo 2.0

If choosing the female lead is a headache for casting, spare a thought for Alden Ehrenreich, who has signed on the dotted line to follow in Harrison Ford's footsteps in the lead role. Having been giving the blessing by Steven Spielberg to reboot the classic character, the 26-year old will be looking to build on his experience from Hail, Cesar! to recreate and rejuvenate one of the most iconic names and faces in Hollywood.

Now knowing his ultimate fate in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the appetite is there to see where Solo came from, how he became a freelance bounty hunter traveling the universe and what made him the legend that he was. No pressure then Alden!
