Rey’s Parentage to Be Revealed in Star Wars Episode VIII?

Since it feels like the Star Wars theories for the latest trilogy have pumped the brakes to make room for Rogue One, it is nice to get a new detail here and there. While promoting the documentary The Eagle Huntress, where she narrates, Daisy Ridley couldn't help but talk Star Wars. Though we've already been told that Episode VIII will carry a tone at least similar to, but not exactly, Empire Strikes Back, she delves into some more specific questions.

Force Awakens Rey's Parentage

What's the big question around her character Rey? The parentage of course! While a number of theories have already been thrown out there, including our unscientific "Bun Theory", Ridley promises that we won't have to wait much longer. While it seems like a stretch, she claims that Star Wars fans will have answers with the release of the next installment. A big reveal that fast? Well, they did reveal who Luke's dad was in the second installment in the old trilogy, so maybe. But we're still thinking the reveal may be partially dependent on Rogue One. But that's a theory for another time.

Daisy Ridley Talks Star Wars Episode VIII

While talking with Vulture, Daisy Ridley covered a number of topics. Like, did you know the actress thinks of herself as a bit of a "Wolf whisperer." No joke, she went on a hike with wolves and, according to her, they took a liking to her. You don't care? Yeah, neither do we.

Rey's Parentage

What we do care about, however, is when she starts talking science fiction. She kicks off the discussion with Rogue One.

“I am just excited to see how it is, because I have heard it is so so different, and its own thing,” Ridely said. “I have no idea what happens – I know the ending, but I have no idea really what happens in it.”

There was a quick effort to touch upon Felicity Jones character, Jyn, but that didn't go anywhere. The topic quickly switched to Episode VIII theories, which Daisy claimed was something she didn't monitor too closely. But that doesn't mean she is out of the loop, as she does know that fans are speculating on Rey's lineage. So should we keep guessing or be patient?

Daisy Ridley on Rey's Lineage

“I mean, I think historically it wouldn’t work, because she is … Darth Vader is there … so she would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma,” Ridley said. "I mean it could happen, especially in a galaxy far, far away."

Daisy Ridley in Force Awakens

Vulture acknowledged that Daisy Ridley took her time before answering. While the publication concludes that maybe she has never considered the question, I have another theory. After seeing all the press that surrounds every statement Adam Driver makes, she had to plan out the response without insinuating anything. She wraps up the discussion by telling fans to keep patient, as the answer will be revealed soon enough.

“We will see in a year,” Ridley said. “Just sit tight on that question.”

Bring it. Who do you think are Rey's parents?
