Jackman Suggests Wolverine Tone and Possible Upcoming Trailer

While making some rounds to discuss his role in the upcoming feature The Greatest Showman, where he will co-star with Zac Efron, Hugh Jackman couldn't help but touch upon the final Wolverine installment. Currently untitled, all we know about the film is that it will be based around "Old Man Logan". The storyline is expected to take place in a post-apocalyptic future with a Western vibe.

If you are curious on how it fits within the stories laid down by Days of Future Past or Apocalypse, let me stop you right there. While the Wolverine films might see their universe cross paths with the X-Men franchise, they do take place on an alternate timeline.

We also know that the film is taking the Deadpool approach by not shying away from the R-rating. But don't think that is because of Deadpool's box office success. Producer Simon Kinberg confirmed that the film was scripted for an R-rating long before Deadpool hit theaters. Respect. #fingersnap

So, with no title and little plot details, understand my surprise when Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, explained to Entertainment Tonight that we might expect a trailer in the next week or two. Wha?!? Name the damn thing first! But I digress...

Possible Wolverine Trailer Should Show Different Tone

When you switch from PG-13 to R, obviously the tone is going to be a bit different. My assumption would be darker, but Jackman says we might not have to assume for long. According to him, something big for Wolverine 3 is coming in the first half of October. With such a claim, I'm thinking that he's hinting at a trailer.

“There’s going to be some stuff coming out in the next week or so. That’s all I’ll say. I’m not good. I’m the kind of person who tells everybody everything. Basically, it’s going to be very different. Very different in tone and hopefully different to anything we’ve done.”

Tell us more! Oh wait, that's it? Back to talking about The Greatest Showman? Boring.

If you were hoping for just one more fact about this Wolverine installment, here is a sad one. Unless they change their minds, Wolverine 3 will be Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart's last X-Men movie. Sad day.
